Should I worry about mold in summer?

I tried autos outdoors this year for first time and was curious if I should bother covering them from the rain. (They are in the ground can’t move them). They are in full flower right now with some good size buds on them. It’s been mid 80s outside consistently but has been raining a lot and I worry about mold. Is it less prone to mold with warmer temps than the cold? Someone told me this a while back and not sure if it’s true lol not really a big deal for me to make some hoops and cover with plastic but I’m pretty busy lately and don’t want to if I don’t have to. Thanks

You might want to, better to play it safe, nothing worst than going to your plants one day and seeing spots of big, brown, nasty mold forming on your buds..

I have had lots of autos melt down in jul.aug cover if you can its really about the RH.

Yup... This weather system that keeps circling above mass is pissing me off... my pots cant dry out at al.

well I’m gonna throw my hoop and plastic up tomorrow along with a fan for safe measure. This weather is crazy it feels like Florida

Rot, by far the worst con of growing outside. The biggest foe. I really don’t know what to do this year. I’m working on temporary coverings but like thumper said it’s about humidity so nothing you can do I guess. I’m looking forward to the day when I can have a huge ventilated greenhouse with a huge dehumidifier. Until then, I’ll be worrying

last year, along with plastic covering, I had a large oscillating fan running 24/7 on them along with some defoliating really allowed great air flow and helped a ton. I still had some rot but only lost less than 10% of total harvest and weren't cut till October

Heres my plan for this late season.... made a thread about it yesterday trying to get some ideas because this rain we're getting is crazy... Might put it up earlier than I wanted.

Shit thats not a bad idea if you had the money.. Id grab some of these or something maybe


and then these are cheap enough where Id probably get some of these, I was trying to think of some way of incorporating this into my design since Ive been dealing with pests lately.... But these mosquito nets are dirt cheap and you could release ladybugs and other beneficial pests in there, as well as keep unwanted things out, birds, etc. Not sure how much light it would block... Never ended up doing it but would be fun to try if I had a bunch of money and time and could grow unlimited numbers of plants.

I like the big net. I’ve been doing sprays with captains jacks here with preflowering starting/coming up. Probably will do one or two foliar rounds of BT before flower too to fend off the worms

That picture is from amazon for $13.xx Theyve got ones that go around a tent or canopy which I might grab when I move out there this season. I think those only go for $16-$20- something also. Would be interested to know how much light they block.

Have been waiting on more bt and some neem even tho Im a little hesitant to use the neem.... I found about 50 slugs on my red peppers and tomatoes tonight which are about 20 feet behind the black shade cloth/fence. Then came over to the plant and started launching a few leaf hoppers off the plants.... Im definitely getting fed up I dont think Ive flicked anything so hard in my life... The only positive is I have the candy striped leaf hoppers so they're easy to spot..

My skin breaks out with some weird rash if I touch it before it dries, well at least it did the last time I tried it... ended up throwing it away, but ordered another from all the bugs from the some what mild winter we had I think.

i think the most important thing is a fan, keep air moving around the plants at all times ...HD and Lowes have outdoor rated fans that can run in any weather ... I have a few of them in the greenhouse and they work great ... but in the past I've just used cheap box fans outside and they'll run through just about everything ... i figured for 20 bucks if it keeps the plants dry for one season and dies, it's still worth it

I also used to rig up all kinds of different coverings through the years ... i think the most important thing is something sturdy that won't come apart when the wind picks up ... there's nothing worse than a sheet of plastic whipping around in the wind destroying anything below it ... or even worse have the plastic catch water and fill up until it collapses ... I've experienced both

if i didn't have the greenhouse I'd probably rig something like I built for my beans ... only covered with plastic ... it's so easy, drive some 2x2 ground stakes, bend pvc across them, and secure with purlins
