should i top

I dont, someone told me it would decrease the effect. With that said if your plant is 5 or 6 feet tall it wont matter. I might try it sometime but for now I dont do it. If it is your first than I dont see the sense, just stay textbook and you wont care once the harvest is complete.

Topping a plant will stunt the growth vertically but will increase growth horizontally. Simply put, topping makes the plant shorter but a lot more bushy... When? After 5 nodes high.... Topping is good if outdoor and plants are about to grow over a fence or something...

i tried before and found the yield to seem to be equal but the topped plant had more small buds and the untopped had less larger buds...ive grown multiple times and i still struggle to decide when it comes time...

Whatsaroach: I wish there was an easier way, but from what you ask, I think you might be new to this so I’d suggest you RTFB and refer to the following:
1. Read: SeeMoreBud’s book, “MARIJUANA BUDS FOR LESS- GROW 8 OZ. OF BUDS FOR LESS THAN $100.”
2. Read: Jorge Cervantes’s book, “MARIJUANA HORTICULTURE THE INDOOR/OUTDOOR MEDICAL GROWER’S BIBLE.”
3. Read: Ed Rosenthal’s, “MARIJUANA GROWER’S HANDBOOK.”
4. You’ll also want to read: Mc Carthy’s book, “GROWING MARIJUANA.”
5. You should also subscribe to, “HIGH TIMES,” magazine. Each issue is chocked full of useful information. .” All these resources are very well written, well illustrated and packed with information that will answer most of your questions before you know to ask them. And I want to add a new book to the list, a 6[SUP]th[/SUP] one: “THE CANNABIS GROW BIBLE- SECOND EDITION,” written by Greg Green. It’s a match to, if not better than, the ones listed above. Doing your homework and consulting these resources will save you and your plants a lot of anxiety before you plant. These forums are great but often they can’t get the information you need to you in a timely fashion. I hope this helps. HSA

It depends on how you want to grow. Topping will give you shorter plants with more smaller tops. not topping will give you a big cola. How many plants? what lights? topping will not affect the plants in a bad way if done properly.

4 plants 400w metal halide. Everytime I hear topping ppl have this conclusion that you get a bigger yeild but I wasn't to sure. However I have plety of space to let them get 8 ft if I wanted to however I don't lol

Personally, I would top. I prefer my plants bushier and with many colas to harvest. Topping can increase total yield if done correctly.

I usually top for the sole reason of wanting clones. As soon as it's at about the 5th node I take a cutting and chop it down to only 2 like UB. I don't have the best track record when it comes to clones so I take them as often as I can. Also I prefer growing bigger plants vs. SOG style or christmas trees. Some strains don't respond too well and others thrive so it's kind of hit and miss. I feel like untopped plants possibly yield more because there's no slow down in growing and the bottom branches tend to stretch out a lot anyways.

I top for 2 reasons. 1. I don't have a lot of height in my room so I have to keep them short. 2. It allows more tops to be closer to the light instead of an 8' plant that is only getting good light at the very top. a shorter bushy plant will get more even light .
