short cannabis plants?how?

Well those plants just look like they were flowered 12/12 from seed and that cup keeps them root bound which prevents them from getting bigger. Or they may just be lowryders or shitty bagseed genetics or a shitty grower to stay so small.

That is one way to do it... the other is training. You can train to keep your plants short and bushy or train them into a stretchy vertical scrog, and anything in between. For short and bushy, the import thing to remember is bending and tying the highest branches down lower than other branches makes the other branches become dominant and start shooting up. The goal with any training is generally to grow the plants such that the canopy of leafs is nice and even and all budsites make good use of the available light spread... or to grow in some specialized space like a small space or oddly shaped space.

Here are some terms to research/google/search regarding training -
LST (low stress training)
FIM (fuck I missed)
Topping
Mainlining
Supercropping
ScrOG (screen of green)

Also check out
SOG (sea of green)
and 12/12 from seed

I recommend you stay away from lowryders / autoflowers but some people are happy with them and they stay small.

I agree with malevolence about training, its the only practical way to keep plants short and still get a worthwhile yield. I would personally suggest running a scrog as I know the height the plant gets is practically controlled by the placemnt of your screen. Simple LST can also work but only if your very diligent in your training and keep at it.

Your pictures look like clones that were flowered as soon as they rooted.
Notice the Solo cups there being grown in. Limited root space = Limited plant growth.
Root pruning will keep your plants short, just like your pictures.

Do a little research into Bonsai. It's the source of all the plant training techniques to keep plants small.

LST. Multiple tie downs. Flower just after you have done tie downs. Then use pipe cleaners with weights attached on the tops once they start stretching - this can bend them outwards rather than up.
