Short? 8in - 18in

I have an experiment I am wanting to start dealing with forcing specific genetic changes in a plant through generational progression and specific conditions. Growing a 6ft+ plants with a large yield isn't too hard to acomplish with correct care or repeated attempts... My question pretains to growing short plants but with a bushy crop who produces a decent yield non-comparativly to larger plants... 8in - 18in high. 1/5 - 1/4 the yield of a typical plant...

What techniques would you recomend for growing short plants to start... The initial yield from my first 3 generations is not my top priority, that is to be worked out later.

An extreamly well lit(more of a 360 lighting with the heaviest light coming from the top) and ventilated area are the basics, any other suggestions? Specific light frequencies(black lights allow tomato plants to grow extreamly short(4-6in) but still yield a crop though at a much smaller size, possibly with 'erb?) Any specific chemical/natural substances that stunt a plants growth without a drastic effect on a yield loss proportional to its size?

I am going with a typical indoor soil grow setup.

Any ideas?

Your best bet is a SOG technique where you prune the plants so they grow a single cola and then pack as many in as you can. I think normal height for SOG grows is right in that range because you take clones and put them right into flower once they root. With small the plants the idea is frequent turn-over since the yield per plant will be way down.
