Hey y'all!!!
First of all, I apologise in advance if someone's already created the exact same kind of thread but after looking through the forums, i still haven't found what i'm looking for...
I am experiencing mainlining on two plants, one Royal Cheese (Indica) and one Amnesia Haze (Sativa). Both of them were grown from seed, the Royal germinated on Oct 22nd and the Amnesia Haze on Oct 29th.
From the beginning, I had planned on having them in their vegetative stage for about 3months. They have been on a 20hrs/4hrs schedule with a 400W MH lamp and I am planning on switching to 12/12 by the end of January. Both of them are growing in 3 gallon pots (i was thinking of transplanting them before flowering but i'm starting to think it might not be a great idea.
Anyway, for those of you who are new to mainlining, be warned that the process slows down growth quite a lot (Especially in Soil!) since you are essentially cutting your plant and forcing it to recover in order to grow the way you want. I decided to experience with two slightly different techniques to obtain 8 colas on each of my plants. On the royal cheese, i topped my plant 3 times (doubling the number of colas each time just like Nugbucket suggests in his tutorial). On the amnesia Haze, i only topped the plant twice but i kept the first node on each side and kept both sides horizontal so that each of the 8 colas would grow equally (Btw, i was surprised to see how well this technique works and how much time it saved me!).
anyway, after a few weeks of wondering how this would turn out, i can now say that they have grown pretty well!
So anyways, here is where i would really like to have some advice:
I know you re supposed to clean up after each topping so that only the main colas are left. however, I have been tying them down so the colas don't grow too close to each other but now some of the shoots from the colas have been coming up quite a lot since they are getting more light. So now i have my 8 main colas PLUS some new mini shoots that are getting close to the height of the main colas....
my question is: should cut those shoots off even though they come right off the main colas or just leave them be..?? or should i lose the ties so the main colas are free to reach up more and the smaller shoots can remain "smaller shoots? Does anyone trim the lower parts of the colas or do you just remove the fan leaves that shadow over the bud sites ??
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks guys \
