Selling to dispensaries...

So what IS the law if you have a MMJ card in CO? Can you sell to clinics? I'd assume they would have to sign you up with some patients to make it legit? Just curious and didn't really feel like reading through the article jargon. Feel free to post links that would give me that answer as well. Thanks.

Interesting. So with clinics who have a license to operate under the "dispensary" label they have to self-provide their own meds? They cannot rely on others to grow for them, correct....based on what you say? Sorry for the simple questions but I'm just trying to get an understanding. I'm looking to start a grow room and have previous experience in growing, but I've lived in CO for two years, had my card for just about that long. Just curious to see where my revenue opportunities are if I decide to start growing.

Under the new laws disp's have to grow 70% of what they sell there was a news item this morning on chanel 4 reporting almost 100 not in compliance with this. They can only buy the other 30% from other disp's. The revenue opportunities are bleak, prices have come down, caregivers are only allowed 5 patients, and the state is saturated with meds. the other thing that is happenin is that with all the various choices folks are becommin pot snobs, lots of caregivers I talk to are havin problems selling strains that don't live up to newly formed pot snobs expectations. The funniest thing is IMO the pot snobs are going for bag appeal and smell over potentcy,,,,go figure

You must be employed by the MMC to be able to grow for them, they can also buy from other licensed MMC's but MUST grow 70% of what they sell. I believe the time limits have expired for aligning yourself with a MMC, but could be wrong. The is a moratorium on new MMC's in the state until i believe November, so no chance of aligning with a new one yet.
If you do not have a license to be a MMC or Infused Products Manufacture then you can only be a caregiver, which limits you to 5 patients with 6 plants per patient, plus yourself. I am sure you have read on the whole "edibles" rec from the doctor, making it "legal" to grow more plants, this is not true, you just can have an "affirmative" defense. That is of course unless you step on the toes of the DEA, then you are going to fed court where they won't let the jury hear the words "Medical Marijuana". Hope that all helps, any specific questions i will do my best to answer.

You really are spot on here, some of the best bud i have ever had wasn't the best looking, however i couldn't get off the couch. And the prices have dropped to stupid levels, i bought just a half of some top shelf stuff, only paid $75 for it, thats basically $5 a gram. MMC's are pushing $200 oz's at this point, so the market is dropping.

I hear ya, I grow shit so potent I have to warn folks, have actually had folks standing take a hit and fall to the floor, I make em sit down before testing now LOL. Have one that is a 30 minute creeper with almost nothing up front, I warn em but had a patient not listen and end up with an anxiety attack but they are not that pretty light green and they don't smell like a skunk so a lot of folks don't even wanna try em. I did have one patient try my tilders bud and her comment was WOW this disspells everything I thought I knew about good bud :)

Yeah i've had guys pass out on the couch, have panic attacks, and even had to stay over for a while, cause they couldn't drive. "But I've never heard of Underground before, is it good?"

riddleme and TruenoAE are correct and spot on in all areas. it's funny how finicky buyers have gotten and want some fancy schmancy name attached. no wants to look at good old school stuff anymore, even though it generally is just as good if not better then the fancy name purple crap that doesn't do the job.

there are still ways for a currently non-compliant MMC (not growing 70%) to become compliant .... they just need to contract/lease a facility that has space available and assign an OPCL licence to it. I've got all my paperwork/licences in order and more then enough space to expand my OPCL, the inspectors like me because we ARE compliant, unlike many facilities that have scrambled since last year to open a grow for their 70%, only to find they are now getting shut down because they failed to follow Permitting and Licensing rules. helloooooo ..... you MUST get construction permits .... plan reviews .... inspections ... sign-offs and a CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY. too many haven't and will soon be in a bad spot.

riddleme ... while I seriously applaud how you take care of your patients (believe me, I wish I could do what you are doing), the above is only part of the reason why I need to actually charge $$ to my patients - while I try to do the best I can for them, it's rarely free unless I know the situation -. The fees and costs associated are freakin HUGE!!! I've had MANY a conversation with owners and a lot are finding the same thing ..... the costs/fees are negating profits. the state has played a fine game with us to reap a huge benefit in revenue, but the small business owners (entrepenuers like me mostly, who didn't come into this dropping $250K+ into an instant facility) are not doing well.

re: pot sobbery .... sad, but I even myself doing it among my own strains .... very sad ....

I hear ya, we have 3 ocpl's next to where I work (state likes to cluster them) The new rules have put a damper on things but I truely believe that in the end it will be better. I am about to start a campaign to give the state some better ideas on how to expand the industry rather than crimp it. I hope a few of em listen LOL

Maybe one day we will blaze some, it is a strain that came from a buddy of mine, has never been grown above ground, so we call it underground! The only available version of it is from quietguy, he has the first cross of it, I called it White Delight (Underground was first called Growers Delight), Underground x white rhino (my avatar is actually mom), traded some seeds to him for some clones. But maybe one day we will meet up and try out the Underground and some of your tilders bud.

Wow guys...tons of info and all seems valid. Thanks. So it looks like I'll be keeping my setup on the small side until things change. Probably just grow for myself. Sounds like the key is to get yourself some patients. Although, making a ton of money isn't my main concern I'd still like to be able to cover costs and have a hobby. It can be rewarding if you get a handle on what you're doing and yield a lot from minimal investment and quality bud. Which is what I'm searching for. Anyone have any suggestions for clones in the I25/I225 corridor area?

Has lots of happy customers on here, the only place you can get my White Delight, although i don't think he actually has it on the boards yet as he is still doing a trial run of a clone to make sure he is happy with it. He is in the springs, but it is def worth the drive.

In my circle, we trade clones & seeds all the time and I always seem to have folks bringin me sick plants (havn't lost one yet) for me this is the fun part (profit aside) hangin with growers, visiting gardens, being able to talk about it. I'm in my 50's so for me simply seein the changes in law and attitude are huge hell I have a grower from here commin over this morning, and Illumination came up from new mexico and spent christmas with me (I live alone) it has truely been a blast

lots of good peeps on the boards with good knowledge.

I was talking to friend last night about the whole industry right now and I see it this way. Right now we have under 20 states with MMJ on the books, but under 1/2 of those have actually implemented any laws. Over the next several years, more states will add MMJ until we reach a tipping point where congressional votes will be able to make large scale changes to the laws. Most states are looking at CO and CA for how the laws and rules are working - CA uses a non-profity model, CO uses a for-profit model <for the most part> - this is why there is a such a flurry of laws and rules changes as they work out what does and doesn't work.

In the meantime (next 5-10 years), WE have an opportunity to educate ourselves on these rules/regs, make ourselves better growers and ultimately position ourselves as Knowledge Experts. The value in this is uncountable. Marijuana is currently a multi-BILLION dollar industry, but most of it is underground. The states and feds want their piece of the pie, it's just figuring out how. We also need to look at the future and getting our own piece of the pie.

I grow for love of the plant and a true belief that MMJ helps with many health problems, and cannabis itself in all forms is God's gift to us that can save the environment .... but people crap on that gift daily. It also doesn't mean that I don't need to make a living either, so I'll continue to gather my knowledge and wisdom and be ready to cash in when the big movements hit.

be ready, it will come.

seriously. there are a few members I'd love to meet. was supposed to drive down to CoLo Springs today to meet C from cocannalabs, but a last minute Dr appt hosed those plans :( hopefully get down there next week. but it would be great to have a sit and burn with you both. my door is always open as well and central @ I25/8th.

I am so happy for the marijuana movement, and I have been wanting to move to Colorado for the longest. When a new president is elected, what do y'all think is going to happen about the dea raiding dispensaries...Obama stopped the raids right? I really hope they make some better laws regarding the selling to dispensaries.
