Seedling Stretching

My buddies seedlings just came through on Friday, and it seems that his seedlings are stretching to much. He has the LED light 30inches above the plants, and in two days the seedlings are 3cms (1.2inchs long) long. This is his first attempt and he just thinks this is to much stretching. Is this OK, or is there anything he should do?

Thanks

What's the wattage of his lights? If they are stretching that means they are reaching for the light, if the lights aren't powerful enough you should lower them according to how many watts the lights are.

Bring the lights within a couple inches and just replant the stem to the first set of leaves.

This is the light he is using. http://area51lighting.com//index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=14&zenid=1217073debdd8d4a579443e1a95f178b the veg model

He has it 30 inches up, so he gets the biggest recommended foot print. So I doubt they are not getting the light they need. He was looking at a bunch of pictures in books and 3cm seems to be what a lot of the seedlings look like in the grow books. Though I am sure you guys no a lot more, so is this even a big deal, as they are going to go outside anyway. Or should the light be lowered?

Thanks!

He just checked again, he started seeds last Tuesday and as of right now the stem from the top of the dirt, to the first set of leaves is 5cm (2inches). He doesn't know what to do.

He lowered 8 inches, is the sufficient or should he expect to lower it more?
So it's a 208w for veg, I would put the light anywhere from 4-12 inches from the top of plant, since the plant is just starting 8-12 inches above should be fine. Good luck with the grow. :bigjoint:
