Seedling stretch advice needed

Hi All,
I have some newly sprouted ladies who have superstretched, i have lowered lights so it shouldnt be doing much more but i now have 3 inch seedlings, one has almost broken and has been splinted.
I was going to repot and bury the stem but some sites are saying the buried stem wont root!
they will be going into 1 litre air pots,
suggestions needed!
thanks in advance and happy growing

Heck yeah if you can repot go for it and bury them up to their leaves! otherwise just pile a mound of soil around them. You can always slap a little rooting gel on the lanky stem bit that you put in the soil but it really isn't necessary.

you need more light............... , just get a twist tie or something like that make a brace for the little guy
than add more light...... 4 , 26 watt cfl . psf works great . make sure the support is 3/4 the way up the stem .

You've already addressed your lighting heighth issue, now repot or mound the soil for support - and - get a fan in there to gently blow on them. It does wonders to strengthen the stems.

Thanks, mounding will be problematical as i have only 1/2 to top of pot, as for repotting i was thinking of waiting as only a week old, what would their root structure be like now? also they are now being fanned for at least 12 hours a day
cheers

You could take e5's advice and support them with a crutch of some kind. Are they in a little planter/starter cup? They're root structure probably isn't all that but if they're in small cups and you let the soil get good and dry they can easily be transplanted to a bigger container.

Is it possible to bury the stem up to the leaves at any stage, so that roots will grow on the buried part?

I am asking because Ive re-potted my seedlings from jiffy pellets where they stretched 2 inches in the first 2 days. As I re-potted, I left maybe a little less than a 1cm stem stick out. Now I noticed they re still growing at almost the same rate. So I am planning to re pot them again and really bury that thing up to the first set of leaves........ cuz I have one seedling which is a week older, and Ive buried that one up to the leaves, and the stretching stopped!
