Seed viability right after harvest?

So I gave my buddy a few seeds directly from my plants. He plans to try germinating them right away. Is that going to be an issue? Will seeds germinate immediately after harvest or do they need to dry out? I never attempted growing them so quickly after harvest (I usually wait until the following outdoor season).

I've never had a Hermy because if anything besides the bad genetics I've got

Not sure where you got this idea from

I did a bunch of crosses with some sensitive genetics and planted them right out of the fresh bud....got like 30% germ rates and much higher rates of Herms.... Same batch of seeds dried for 3 months... 95-100% germ rates and minimal herm rates...

I wonder how it works in nature
That’s sort of what I worried about. If the seed dropped and germinated in the same growing season, it would probably not survive the winter. Makes sense it would require dormancy. On the other hand, we’ve done such good job mixing genetics from different parts of the world, I’m not sure what “nature” is for the plant anymore.

In any case, it’s more my buddy’s problem than mine... LOL. I’m done popping seeds until next spring.
