Seed/Strain Recommendations

I am in need of some recommendations. I want to begin my first grow attempt and I want to find a shorter strain (growing in a closet) and one that will not smell so bad since I am in an apartment. I also want a plant that will be worth my time and money. I have looked at so many seed bank sites that my head is starting to spin, but that could be the herb...

I'm gonna go way out there and suggest White Russian Feminized Lowlife Automatic.

1. You say your first grow - you're not going to find anything easier than this: no 12/12; don't need to light proof your closet; all female
2. You say your first grow - you want your first harvest quick - 10 weeks from seed
3. You want a strain with low smell - 5/10
4. You want a short strain - 14".
5. You want a strain worth your time and money:

You'll find strains with less smell, bigger yield, different highs you might want - but White Russian will knock your socks off and for a closet grower getting total darkness for 12 hours is not always a small thing.

Look into a carbon filter or some other type of odor control. Even Ono and crystals in a bucket will help.

There are many types of autos, I picked WR because of the relatively low smell.

really what do you want to grow? Just look around for some dank high yieldin seeds somewhere that are fairly easy to grow.

I also would recommend any of the Auto Flowering strains.
Ive got some Auto Hindu Kush going right now. Take a close look at this strain, I think it has real promise.
Im growing nothing but Auto's now.
I have some White Widow and Big Bud and some other varieties, but Im moving to the smaller size auto flower strains.

Is autoflowering the way to go? I dont know much about the pheno but I assume that once it begins sprouting, the flowering hormone is activated. I'll look into chemo and these autos and see whats good. I like the idea of a white strain anyway, thanks a lot! I am guessing that lowryders are also small plants so I will look into those some. Any other ideas? I feel like I've looked at maybe hundreds of strains in the past few days, its all just a matter of narrowing it down.

boymeetsweed it should really come down to what type of high/stone you want, then look for strain options that fit your growing criteria. All you've told us are your growing limitations and that's the information most of the breeder strain descriptions give, and not enough on what we are really interested in - the high, the stone, the flavor.

Blueberry - classic long lasting euphoric stone.

Northern Lights - great long lasting stone.

Cheese - uplifting, no ceiling, high.

If you go to a seed bank like Attitude you have a good chance of getting great genetics regardless of the breeder, and there are icons to show you cup winning strains.

My advice would be to: pick at least two types of high/stone that you want; pick the strains that fit within your growing limitations; buy feminized; look at the picknmix section (single fem seeds) if money is tight; and consider autoflowering since it is your first grow and you are growing in a closet.

Darkness

Take: a joint, a drink, and a luminous watch; sit in your closet with the lights out in your room; smoke the joint, drink the drink and in 15 minutes or a half hour see if you can make out any shapes. The absolute darkness you thought you had when the closet door closed is probably maneuverable now.

You need absolute darkness for 12 hours to flower most strains, if you don't have it you could get hermies, slow down the flowering stage, get less potent weed.

You will also need good ventilation in the closet with the door closed as an HID light will heat it up and cook your plants.

If the height of your strain gets away from you while you're learning the basics you could have a lot of extra work bending the stems to fit under the light, or lose yield/potency.

We all learn this during our first grow and a lot of us scrambled to fix the problems as we see the results in the plants. A short autoflowering plant will make your first grow much easier, more enjoyable, less stessfull, and give you a much better chance of getting some decent weed the first time out.

Thats all I've got to say about that.

One other thing (lol) -

First grow = you want bud quick.

For rough figures, if you take:

1 week to germ
5 weeks to veg
8-12 weeks to flower
1 - 4 weeks to water/air cure

you are looking at 15 to 22 weeks for your first decent smoke, probably closer to the larger number for a first time grower. 4 to 5 months from seed to decent smoke.

Quicker flowering strains or autoflowers are the way to go. Dr Greenthumb adverstises Endless Sky to harvest 42-45 days from 12/12, it's very potent, has a decent yield and is realitively expensive. With an autoflower you could go from seed to chop in 2 months. Blueberry, Northern Lights - short flowering strains are what you need.
