seed boutique freebies - a little info

Just did an order from seed boutique, not really news around here. Lot of RIU orders from seed boutique.

Been seeing just about every boutique order has been accompanied by a free pack of 'Mazar'. Didn't sound all that great. Lot of people talking about poor germination and quick die off of seedlings. OK, sounds like they're giving free junk, but hey it's free.

So I went and did some reading. Not too hard to find. If interested, I can update anyone interested. In short, don't toss those seeds, or think they're crap.

From what I've read, there maybe a mixture of seeds from more than 1 afghan location. Seems these are landrace strain. May not be a good strain for newb's, at least if you try to treat them like most of the hybrids we are used to.

There seem to be at least a couple of phenotypes here, 1 more indica, the other more on the sativa side. And they don't like all that much water, very dry tolerant. My guess is this is part of the trouble some people have had here. Makes sense for an afghan landrace, at least to me.

Also supposed to be very heat and cold tolerant. Don't know if this part is true, but often harvested in January. It's used for hash there, so it's left to ripen real good. It laughs at heat and pisses on snow. If only I had something like this when I was growing outdoors. I always had some real good hill/mountain locations, but they were way too fucking dry! Oh well.

Bud formation can be slow, doesn't really take off till about 7 weeks, but then kicks in to high gear. Not an early finisher, though I think the pack info may say otherwise. 10 weeks probably the minimum, and longer if you want the full indica stone.

Which is where it got interesting for me, seems to give a very nice head high for indica. For me an indica that gives the sativa feel is the holy grail. Long cure seems to be needed, reports of harshness of fresh buds.

I haven't seen this info on RIU yet. Maybe it's here, but the guru's haven't gotten around to posting yet. In short, you might want to do a little internet browsing on these seeds before popping. Might be a little more here than you think for freebies

I recently received 5 free seeds from Marijuana-seeds.nl that were said to be Afghan x Mazar. Are these the same type of seeds that you are referring to that are being gave away? All 5 of mine germinated & were females. They are doing very well, They just seem to be very touchy when it comes to nutes. They also do seem to do better with less water.

I think they are different, a hybrid that does have a similar parent. You're probably better off with what you have, I suspect you will have an easier time with them. I don't have my delivery yet(hoping) so not sure what the package info is(or if it's accurate)

I got the mazar+afghan from marijuana-seeds.nl tryed two seeds both sprouted fine. Both are fems. I have just finished 72 hr of dark and there now on 12/12. Iam growing in a ebb and flow setup. I have them under a 430 watt son agro. Using GH three part. Today I turned the lights back on and the large fan leaf's are drooping very badly. The rest seem to be ok? Any ideays?

72 hours of dark. Not sure where that method came from, but you got some balls. In nature, I think would be like some volcanic plume blocked the light for 3 days. That your seeing droop wouldn't surprise me. I don't have any experience with this method. Good luck!

Works great. Found it here. I did a Haze a little over a week agow and it is allready covered with popcorn buds. It had no probs. I did my White Widow with the mazars and it looks just fine. I think it might have not liked having a fan on it 24/7 for 72hr? I hope it will come back tomorrow. Seems like a very nice plant. Cant wait to make bubble hash with some of it. Hope its as good as my Haze Hash. Thats my fav smoke of all time. (so far lol)

hey man,
everything your saying is so true!!. i got 5 freebies 28th of april. put them straight i damp paper towel. 3 out of 5 germ'd. from those 3 i lost 2 seedlings from over watering. they do like to be dry!. the surviving one is only about 20cm tall 5 weeks old. its growing slow as HELL! i started some others a week after and ther are 3 times the size. very indica looking! its very short and stocky, with very little branching and large deep veined dark green leaves.

the picture i attached is 27 days old or 25 days from the day its 1st true leaves appeared. the 2nd pic is a cutting i took when the seed was planted, it took 8 days to root and was planted around the 10th of may. so it is around 15 days old (in coco)

madazz,

Great post! There's 1 grow log on RIU that I know of, couple weeks along. I reread some of the grow logs that had the info I posted. One other trait they seem to have is heavy feeder, even more than usual for an indica. These plants have potential, no question about it. Some of the pics on the mature ones had a central cola you club somebody with.
Feel free to post more pics on this thread, these are the most mature plants I've seen here. But if anyone else has quietly taken any to maturity, I'm sure your results would be great to see.

Unfortunately I am 0/4 germinating my freebie MIS from SB. I'm kind of disappointed, as I was hoping to have an indica dom strain to work with. I still have one more, maybe I'll try to germ it next week. Good to see you guys having success with it. Can we get a smoke report when the time comes?
