Second grow, 400hps bagseed, and bigbud

Hey guys/gals...i have been reading this forum for a while now and it has been a lot of help. thank you all! Ok, story is....last setup was a closet 2feet deep 8feet wide and 8feet tall. 2 circulating fans no eghaust just would open door when light was on. I used bag seed cause i knew it was an exsperiment. started with 20 plants, wound up with 3 females that didnt hermie on me. Two plants matured 3 weeks early, all the hairs turned red, and leaves were burnt. I have one left in there now and it seems to be collecting nice trichomes compared to the other 2. i know my temp was the problem, once or twice temp got up to 99, but usually stays at 84-86 with light on/doors open. i am moving to a bigger closet for my next grow of bagseed and big bud and thai stick. the closet is around 10x10x8, still using my 400 hps, i was going to get a squirell cage fan and vent to the attic, and cut a larger intake hole to pull air in. the ballast has no cool tube or anything, so i cant vent the light adiquitly. sorry for spelling. anyway do you think this will help my problem? thanks for the advice. smoke em if ya got em

venting the room 24x7 should do the trick - but you'll have to try it out to know for certain. Obviously air-cooling the light would be the "best" thing but since that isn't the case, you can try aiming another oscillating fan right at the bulbs to cool them off.

one bit of advice is to run the room without plants for a few days to see what the temps are and make any changes before germinating - that way you won't lose any plants or time.

thanks, for your reply, the hood does have a cheesy 3" hole on both sides, but i thought like a 6" fan sucking out, and a 8" hole to suck from would work. i will test room, before as i have seeds now germinating, and they will be under the flouros for a while....big bud and thai stick will arrive anywhere from a week to three weeks from now. its funny i thought they were doing so well in veg at 83-88F but when i forced flower i got like 4 hermies, and lost a lot, and quality sucks. If my buds dont smell like much now will they later after drying and curring?

you can get duct reducers for the 3" hole (or just use that heavy-duty aluminum duct tape).

anything over 80 F is really pushing it around 75 F is better. as far as the smell goes - it is hard to say though my limited experience is drying and curing makes it smell better - but not really more or less powerful. Though there is a short time during the drying/curing process when it smells like hay and you think you screwed it up! but keep on following the drying/curing advice on here (or in whatever grow book you're using) and it will turn out fine.

cool, about how many cfm do i need for a 10x10x8 closet? and if its around 400 to 650 cfm, and i reduce it down to 3" to accommodate my hood will it work the same, or would i be better off with the squirrel cage fan sucking from a 8" hole near floor and blowing out hot air near ceiling into attic?

i'd use the 650 CFM just to vent the room and get another < 200 CFM fan for the light by itself (works especially well if the reflector has a glass cover).

I would mount the exhaust fans near the top and put my intake holes (with or without fans depending on need) towards the bottom which uses the natural tendency for hot air to rise to your advantage. keep 1 or 3 oscillating fans in there to keep the air moving which ensures the availability of plenty of CO2 for your plants.

if it would happen to get too cool, you can shut off the light-only exhaust fan.

that's what i think anyway...
