Sativas better in the summer?

So im finishing up my first grow i grew with LED's i had 4 OG's mostly indica and 1 freebe plant (runt), I live in the dessert and have a swamp cooler and a forced air furnace. I havnt invested in humidifiers, dehumidifiers or a seperate AC unit. So anyway it was a very hot summer the swampcooler has been on alot creating a hot humid environment it was a battle to keep them happy i harvested 3oz dry off 2 plants. So im assuming that i would have done better with a sativia dominant strain? This winter is going to get cold so the forced air furnace is going to cause a low humidity environment so i should maybe grow an indica dominant strain? Oh im not growing in a tent just on a foldable picnic table in my bedroom with some fans hahahah i know kind of getto... would a tent help? Ive already spent alot of money and the bills are piling up. Am i thinking right or just high??

Tropical sativas do handle the heat better, as well as high humidity, but the tradeoff is a much longer time for the bud to mature. I grew a Malawi that went for 20 weeks, and even then I had to stagger the harvest and only harvest the ripe buds at a time. I ended up giving up on some of the lower buds and just harvested them immature to open the space back up. I'm sure there are some shorter flowering sativa dominant plants that maintain this trait, I just can't think of any offhand. Some of the other African sativas are naturally shorter flowering, so it might be worth looking into them. Any of the sativas with naturally airy bud structure will handle humidity better than a thick cola'd indica, it makes a HUGE difference both outdoors and in a humid indoor environment. I also suggest treating your plants with a biological fungicide, and maybe neem/silica, on alternating weeks up until bud formation, prevention is the best cure for powdery mildew in humid environments. If you can, theres this black n white plastic you can buy, you can make your own tent type of thing, a wooden frame with the plastis white side in will reflet way more light to your plants andyour harvest will be larger for it.
