Is there any possible way that I can check if my baby's roots are growing?

planting in a clear container with a black plastic sleeve allows you to slide the sheath off and look also people use clear + painted dixie cups one in another for small plants
but take it this way, foliage mass= root mass. increase the foliage, you have more roots. this helps you figure out when to transplant. also you can tell by how fast it drinks water

What I mean is my plants haven't surfaced yet and was wanting to see if the roots are growing as I put them straight in to a 10 litre pot.?
