Roots are used to darkness in dirt, will light harm them in tubes?

Roots are used to darkness in dirt they never see the sunlight, will white tubes let too much light in?? My friend is saying i should paint the tubes black, does this make sense?? Any roots specialists here that know for sure??

i think the light doesn't hurt the roots but it does cause algae to grow. the algae needs the light to grow. cut off the light and you cut off the algae.

i don't think the white lets light thru anyway. cap one end and stick your eye into the other. is it light? i have never checked so i could be wrong.

Yep, what they said.

Clear tubes allow light in, and LIGHT causes unwanted algae in hydroponics.
