RO water.

Hey all, I've been growing with some moderate to better than that success hydro for a while but always used tap water. as my previous residence in the mountains had a well i never gave it a second thought. I've recently had to move to town and now I'm having some leaf curl issues that im thinking is ph related. My longwinded question is this. What is the best(cheapest) way to get ro water? is there a filter I can just put under the sink in my grow area or is it more involved and expensive than that?

Thanks and Long Ashes

Depending on the amount you go through, some grocery stores sell ro water, I found those ro systems can be quite pricey, definitely get off the tap.

no I don't really have a any brown spots. the affected leaf areas are a lighter green towards the center and stem of the leaf but no brown thankfully. here's some pics.

my ph is about 6.03 and ppm is 1250. the temp is ranging 80-90 and they are about 20 inches below a 400w MH light.

what about those brita systems for the faucet? would those be any good? im not sure but i know that it makes the water taste much cleaner and better. oh wait, i dont think it would correct the ph problem though, just thought i would toss that idea in the ring though.

Your gonna have to buy a filter system that hooks up to your sink or go to those watermill deals where they sell water by the gallon, which is a pain in the ass,but works great.

Any one can tell me why i have this brownish spot on the leaves?
I just did some testing with my tap water, which has a strong chlorine smell. I used my 1 gallon brita water filter and set some tap water through 1 round. Before filtering I took a test sample of some of the tap water directly from the faucet, it was at least 8.0(high as my tester goes)

After one filtering the water dropped to 6.5ph, then after another filter it dropped to a 5.5-6.0 zone. Chlorine smell is gone, not sure if it actually removed the chlorine, and I'm not sure if my tap water is chlorimine or chlorine treated.

Regardless the water's PH most certainly dropped at least 2.0 in only 2 filterings. I believe I have old pipes in my home, but I can't be certain how old. The filter most certainly filtered something. Whether or not the things it filtered out were bad for watering or if they might have actually been things good to keep in the water remains to be seen.

plants like the micro organisms in tap water, just let it sit out for 24 hours to get rid of the chlorine. RO is just another waste of money

Al B Fuct wrote in his huge weed info thread that chlorine is actually good (at least for hydroponics or similar setups) in that it kills microrganisms and eventually evaporates while protecting the feeding solution. Also you're not really going to find a whole lot of micro organisms in tap water, I'd go as far as to say none, that's what the chlorine is for, the chlorine smell is the chlorine killing those organsims.
