Death Star is a cross between Sensi Star and Sour Diesel that originated in Ohio. It is a clone-only strain which means that there are no seeds currently available. Death Star has grown in popularity over the last year or two, especially after High Times wrote about it in their February, 2010 edition. Sensi Star is a fruity indica and Sour Diesel is a pungent, stinky little hybrid. Death Star is a successful attempt at bringing out the best qualities of both strains. There has been a lot of hype surrounding this strain lately, so it seemed like a perfect candidate for a review. It wouldn’t surprise me if rap songs are being written about it. This Death Star was purchased at Grateful Meds in Nederland, CO.

Death Star tends to grow in bushes of smaller buds with few large colas, much like Sour Diesel . The buds themselves are so sticky that packing a bowl can be a bit of a chore without a grinder. When you go in to pinch off a piece, the whole bud will just mash and stick together. While slightly inconvenient, that is how you know you are working with some true heat. The buds are a dark green color, riddled with dark orange to brown-colored hairs. The dark coloration is something found in both of Death Star’s parent strains. When you finally are able to rip a piece off, you will likely get a waft of that dank Diesel stench mixed with a light floral sweet smell of the Sensi Star .

The flavor of Death Star smoke is delicious and leaves you with a Diesel after taste, although it was slightly harsh on the throat. The high produced from this strain is top notch. It truly demonstrates qualities from both the sativas and indicas in its’ lineage. Death Star has an uplifting, motivational quality that had me up and about like a sativa normally would, but also made me feel mentally numb, which is an indica trait. It was quite a combination that kind of made me feel like I was sleepwalking, which I suppose would be great for people that get migraines or have ADHD.

Overall, I was fairly impressed with the Death Star. It had a lot of hype surrounding it, but it honestly is a great strain that tastes good and gets you heavily medicated. That is what you need to be looking for in your buds. Grateful Meds always has great strains and is totally worth the drive if that is what you need. Also, when I was there they were selling Keef Colas for only $5; lower than anywhere else I’ve been to. I always look forward to going back.
