Reverse Osmosis Water Filtration Kit

bongsmilie What up everyone? bongsmilie

I just bought a GE Reverse Osmosis Kit today so that I can offer my plants the absolute best filtered water that I can give them. I have used these systems before and think they are great. Anyone else using these and prefer them for quality control and being able to give pure, low ppm water during feed/flush and whatnot?

Share your 2 cents, or simply bump... Rep+ for good comments! :peace:

The first time I tried growing it was an outdoor op. I was living with my mom, an yet I somehow had to do this without getting caught. I made every mistake possible that season, one of which was watering with tap water. I live in las vegas, where the notorious rocket fuel explsion happened. Needless to say, we have hard water, with trace elements of rocket fuel chemicals. The excess calcium and magnesium locked up the soil and my plants werent able to take in nutrients.
After doing some reading, i popped for the $1.25 5 gallon of R/O water bottles that you fill up at the grocery store. Well within a week the life returned to my plants and my problems were solved (for a while).
I know now that you can avoid ph, nutrient, and even some bug problems simply by using r/o water. Remember, garbage in, garbage out.

RO is a good way to go- I was short on cash so I went with a Zero Water filter (not RO) and I double checked the filtered water with my ppm meter (and the one that came with the system) and it was 0. After filtering 80 or so gallons, I noticed an odd smell, so I soaked the filter in water with bleach and the smell went away. PPMs are less than 90 right now, and when I get some more cash I will be getting filter replacements.

Awesome, thx for the comments so far!

I just remember when my buddies and I first dabbled with those systems. We actually had two and hooked one up into our kitchen for drinking/cooking. Wow did it make a difference! If you've ever wondering why a Dasani bottled water tastes so smoothe, it's because of reverse osmosis! Comes out with a good, pure flavor. Any time we cooked, we used that water. I swear even the dogs liked it that much more. And of course, with the second unit we were running that a good bit downstairs and keeping our 55 gallon reservoir 2/3-full at all times. I love the zero PPM. Allows you to really get a hold of what is available to your plants. Nothing goes in unless YOU put it there. Love it.

Yep, my well water is very very hard. I can get it down to single digit ppms with my 5 filter setup.

Ya I hear some people say that tap water is fine. And I mean, if you get good water either from a well or local spring, then by all means use it. But AT THE VERY LEAST, I recommend putting it thru a $20 Brita or PUR water filter. They attach to hoses, faucets, if you have a small grow and are low on $ you can buy the 16 oz or so handheld ones. Just use something. Treat your girls right.

As for the RO ... I mean, it's basically 0 PPM. That sounds like quality control to me!

*** On another note, I'd like to applaud the two workers standing about 50 feet from me for their fast work. My damn neighbor took down his side of the fence that was connected to my yard. I was pissed because this not only was a huge security threat and exposure to my greenhouse with unknown people seeing it, but there was a light issue as far as the house being exposed at night, and last I checked the neighbors don't have their windows mylared like I do haha ... Well, the two workers came out today and busted that fence out in a few hours. They're finishing the last couple posts right now, which means the tarp can come off and problem solved!!! Luckily they seemed chill, I don't think I'll have any future problems from this situation ***

Good call man, I'm sure your babies are loving that damn near 0 ppm water. Found this website in the "Good Deals thread" ( www.purewaterclub.com ) anyone thinking about upgrading their water should check it out. Cheapest prices I've been able to find

RO is the only way to go (unless you have well water and you're doing organic soil). Also, GE makes one of the best and most reliable membranes... good purchase!

Ya I think it's one of the smartest investments I've made. It's nice being able to strip the water of everything and only have what i want in there, if anything, such as final flush!

Thx for the response

...sup fellas, just wanted to add a couple pennys worth of my own here. RO is great...I wouldn't grow hydro without it...especially during flush. But, I have to say, tap water can be good for your ladies...there's alot of usefull elements in it. I have city water, 350ppm on a normal. My soil grows absolutely love my tap water from aero cloner to harvest. My hydro grows do awesome with it also...however, come flush time in hydro, I had to switch to RO. The tap water gave the bud a nasty chemical aftertaste. I've grown my hydro using nothing but RO, and I quickly noticed a cal./mag. issue...so, if your going to use nothing but RO, you might want to invest in some cal./mag.....................good luck peps. :joint:

Absolutely! I think it will be noticed most at the end when you flush and are inhaling your first hit of the final product. I agree that the elements you pull out can at times be good for the plants, however, if you saw my nutrient closet you'd know that I already have every aspect covered. The way I measure and am very controlled, I'd kinda rather start from 0 PPM and build it up how I want to the T. If I don't have it going thru the RO, I know there could be more chlorine or calcium in the water than I want, for example.

I'm 4-5 weeks away from starting a flush on one of my girls, so I had to make this purchase with that phase coming up. I was orig using a GE Heavy Duty Household filter w/ upgraded carbon filter. Got all large particles & a good bit of trace elements out, but nowhere near the quality of RO.

BTW I love your avatar! Dogma is a great movie ... R.I.P. Geroge Carlin! One of the Kings of Comedy!
