Is this just a regular burn from being too close to the light or is this a sign of something else. Im using 6 CFLs in a grow box that are fairly close to the plant. I thought it was kind of strange because its not just the leaf tip but ratherthe side of the leaves being burned. Im not using nutes, however gave itt some brown sugar unrefined mixture 3 days ago (1 tablespoon to about 1 litre of water). This is the only area thats affected, rest is fine.

It could be light burn, but it's more likely to be burns from water drops left on the leaves which then act as a magnifying glass from the lights and burns the leaf surface. Can you recall leaving any water drops on the plant?

I use Cfl's myself.
I tend to have a simmilar problem.
My plants seem to do most of their growing at night, so sometimes I have some burnt fan leaf tips. The cfl's will burn the plants if they are left touching the light for an extended amount of time.
Like babygro said if you spray the plant while it is under the lights it will magnify the light and cause burn spots.
When I spray mine I take them out and set them infront of the window.
I let them dry off before putting back under the lights.

ive had burnt leaves, but now its not the tips at are burning, rather the sides that should be further from the light and therefor cooler
