Hello,

I have reflective mylar(the one that looks like it has little bubbles). Can I use that as a reflective hood? I have a 250 HPS.

If you are really good at DIY, perhaps. But then again, if you were that good at DIY, you would be showing us how to do it instead of asking. So, I'll vote for buying a reflector too.

Just dont burn your house down... imagine if that reflective stuff your trying to use, falls on the light bulb... it will probably start on fire... just wait and save your money to buy one..

It would work, but not very well. The stuff gets wrinkled and creased pretty easy. It would be difficult to get it to stay in any kind of shape.
But, it does reflect fairly decent, and it insulates nicely to. I used it on the floor and top of my chamber when i grew. I don't know what the cost's of a reflector are, but if those guy's say they are inexpensive, I would go that route and save a lot of headaches.

What he says. I have never tested it, but it would melt on a hot bulb. It's just bubble wrap, but the bubbles are flatter, with Mylar on each side.

Hello,
ty for your answers. Well I have to keep it some distance from the HPS and having read yesterday that light looses loomens like crazyy with distance I guess that I'll be loosing alot.

What reflectors do ytou recommend. I have the normal ones U shaped for like 20$ all the way to A wings for about 60-70$. What is it ok for my 250 HPS. I'll be using it for 2-5 plants at the most. Smal personal use.

CFL should be horizontal on top of the plant right? I mean I see some posts that are saying something about vertical positioning gives more lumens becouse of the construiction. So horizontal or vertical in your oppinion?

Most of the light from the coil-type CFL comes from the side of the bulb. So, if they were above the plant, they should be horizontal. But if they hang by the sides, then they would be vertical.

And all artificial light suffers from fall-off. That's one reason the sun is better if you can use it. However, CFLs suffer the most, which is why you want them very close. HIDs suffer the least, which is why they can grow tall plants and penetrate thick buds and canopies.

So what do you recomment for a 250HPS? A simple U shaped reflector at about 20$ or an A WING (a a bit low end moddel) at about 65$ ? Inbetween are just U shaped moddels.
