So I'm well into my second harvest and there's definately a keeper I want to start trying to clone from. Can anyone recommend me a light to veg one or two mothers and several clones at a time? Ps I'm already running 2x 600w so I need to save electricity so I was thinking either a 150w cfl or 150w HID but like I said I am open to suggestion. Cheers!

A 150 hps will do the job nicely or you can get a 2ft 4 bulb t5 setup.. Me personally i would use the 150 hps.. Ive used mine before and loved the results.. Im aboout to use it to veg plants and mothers soon..

go with a t5. no heat, low amperage and high lumen output. easier to work with too

Go with the Sun System 150 HPS. It produces way more light than a 125w cfl (8,000 lumens vs. 16,000 but don't quote me) and the bulbs are less than half the price ($40 for a feliz 125 vs $15 for a Ultrasun 150). I own both and would not buy the CFL again.

Are we talking higher output than a hps? or cfl?
Besides that for th e t5 to have more lumens than hps it would have to be way more wattage which would be more money;0

You are right about the lumens part and price.. I would say the best bang for the buck would be the hps.. 69 dollars for a 150 system.

you waste more electricity leaving the lights on around the house. how penny pinching can you possibly get? you wouldn't even notice.

a 400w MH will cover about a 4x4 area..but its important to use your light well..i.e full on reflective surfaces.. T-5s work OK to keep a couple moms happy..but ur gana wana run like two 4 foot 4 lamp one over the top ov em and one on the wall..t-5s do cost more up front but they save on elec in the long run so..pick ur poisen... my preference is to start clones under an HID light like the 400w MH you could have one t-5 for the moms and a 400w or smaller in the same growing room too..ya know put clones and vegging plant directly under the HM and moms by ur t-5..it all kinda depends on how big ur op is and what ur trying to do... a lil more info on how u plan to grow would help to give you the best answer to the question.

he wants a veg light for clones and mothers,, i'd go with the t5's. whichever fits your space best. (2 foot 4 bulb,, 4 foot 4 bulb-8bulb) i'd even recommend using multiple lower wattage (30w) cfl's as opposed to one large cfl if thats the route you went. an HPS is more in the red spectrum which induces stretching and also will be more of a challenge to deal with heat. looking for extra lumens out of an HPS seems silly when its for mothers and clones. you will end up having to prune your mums more than necessary and your clones will be over-heated. just my opinion ;)

Sorry you all bashing HPS for veg, your wrong. The newer enhanced spectrum HPS bulbs will veg a plant as well or better than a MH of the same wattage.

A couple T-5s or T-8s will keep moms and clones just fine......

Really, and the 150W HPS bulb being mentioned is one such bulb? Also when did I compare it to an MH of equal wattage?
An HPS for clones/mothers is just stupid, much better options.

The HPS stretch is just forum bunk. Yes the additional red may cause a bit of stem elongation but not the amount most assume. Side by side the difference is negligible........
