Hi, Is it possiable to have to much heat during germination. I was germinating my seeds with a heating pad, two plates and paper towels. My problem is when i removed the plates from the heating pad i saw a little steam. The paper towels were still miost and the seeds had little tap roots. I planted these seeds about 20hr ago.... do u think they will spourt? any help or suggestions thanks

Heating pads commonly pump out too much heat.. I think they're calibrated to be used in a cool area like a greenhouse/garage just prior to normal planting season.. I've used a thin carboard box between a pad and the medium with success.. Its trial and error until you figure it out, but as you've seen, things gradually build up over the long term so its highly advisable to put it under test conditions for a full 24hrs whatever you do.. If they popped though they should be ok
A metal surface with a heat source on it like a lightbulb (light-proof your seeds though) whatever distance you need to get a nice temperature where your seeds are will work since the metal will reach an equilibrium about how it conducts/disperses the heat eventually and you can pick any temperature by location for your seeds.. It really doesn't take much heat at all!

And for clones, you can put that kind of setup in a big box with a cfl, and a bowl of water at a spot closer to the heat source to add humidity..
