In need of a fan 6'' or 8'' ?? to move enough air with a carbon filter size? for :wall:a room 8x12. Is there a fan that is really really quiet and if not how would you make one quiet?? I want total silence almost. So any help would help... Peace.

there is a formula for fan sizes, i don't know it offhand. A six inch for a 8x12 room will not be enough... its always better to have more air than you think you need, especially if you think your going to use one fan and have passive intakes. I used a 8inch H.O. Can Fan and it was not enough for my 11x11 room, once it was hooked up to a scrubber.
your fan needs to be able to clear your within 5 minutes of continuous operation as a rule. you'll need insulated ducting, a filter, and connections for your fan to scrubber. I aslo bought a big fat can ( you never know when your op might get bigger).

No high output fan will be quiet...

Get the fan you need and build a muffle box around it....

My 2 cents...:o

But is a can fan able to be in a box with insulation? Will it over heat? Only the ducts, insulated of course will enter and exit the box with the one for exhaust and the one for the filter... Thanks.;

I can see this guy having a point...

my motor is right in the path way of the air flow and im pulling air from the out side ... so im thinking the air its pulling in is also cooling it down as it pulls air in well thats what im hopeing is happening.... ...
