Quick Soil question :)

Hey guys. Quick question. When i start my second grow is it necessary to start my germinated seed in a small pot and transfer into a big one later on? Or would just throwing the seed into its big pot from the start be okay?

In my mind it seems to make more sense to just start it in the same pot it will be in. lol less moving the plant means less shock lol. My cabnit is the same for veg/flowering. I have two plants going at a time and just lower and raise my lights according to the plant growth.

Starting in to large of a pot will give you a good chance of root rot. The large pot will tend to stay wet longer than the small plant would like. The roots must dry out and search for water to grow and get strong.

What are you working with? Need to know medium you are growing in, pot sizes you are using, the way your cabinets setup and plant age and rotation from veg to flower etc..... I'm sure it will work but might not be optimal depending on your setup. If you got pics love to see em. I'll check back for more info. Here is some basic info that might help though. Smaller pot equals smaller root mass, smaller root mass is said to develop less on top. You don't want the roots to become cramped and root bound.

You might want to consider using your veg plant for clones. Make one or as many as you need depending on space. You could then take the ones that root and transplant into larger pots that will be used for veg and flower.

Also if you start off in a 16oz (seedling) to a 1 gallon then a 3 gallon until harvest, you will be keeping fresh soil on the plant and the roots will grow out and run out of running room then they will fatten up. By the time they are in a 3 gallon they will be some fat roots and still have plenty of room to grow along new bounderies.

okay so i should start out in a medium size pot or so, then transplant into a bigger one? lol.. illpost some pictures today of my setup guys

Here is a few pictures . The plants have grown a large amount sense these pictures but this is the setup i got. I Also have 1 more light on each side of the two plants as well as switched to 12/12 lighting. The brown wall on the back is also painted white now

I like to start out in peat pots so when I transplant into next pot all I do is put the peat pot in the next pot

This is true. I like the peat pot ideas. So i just plant the pot and the pot will desolve?

idk about the peat pots .. myself i like to start in the small ones and then peel it off when i transfer it to a larger plastic pot.. then may leave it in there a month let the roots get a firm hold then a final transfer to whatever you are goin to finish the plant in like a 2-5 gal. Even tho those peat pots are biodegradable i wouldn't leave anything on that might hinder root growth as even with the peat pellets i pull the netting off when i plant them into a bigger container

yes it will disolve it is peat that is the same as in most potting soils. this makes the first tranpalnt fool proof and this is the weakest the plant will ever be.

Yeah, so transplanting by just setting the peat pot a few inchs under the soil into a new pot is okay? How long willl it take to dissolve and it wont slow down root growth?

It will start breaking down as you water it. The roots will grow right through it even if left unpotted.

sweet. Thanks man. That will be my good info for my next grow this grow is my first and all experimental. I've had 4 different grow room/boxes till i got it right and how i wanted it lol.

yeah deffo go with the peat pots i always go by them for seedlins and my clones
