Technically it can, if the solution is not oxygenated enough. That is why in a DWC or bubbler type system you need an air stone to provide oxygen to the roots to prevent them from drowning. correct me if im wrong here...this is how i understand it

Ya thats pretty much it. Plants are like fish except that fish use gills to pull the o2 out of water and plants use roots. ding use airstones the more the merrier your ladies will be.

You also might wanna think about using a dwc supplement. I use Botanicare's Hydroguard to keep the root system in check.
