Questions Questions Drying & Curing

Hello Everyone I'm deep into my first grow. My plants are looking great so far I have two Bubblicous plants outdoor very green and nice. Now I live in the North East of the United States so harvest comes in a few months and I am starting to prep for the Dry and cure part. Being that i have never done this before I don't know that amount of space that I should have available for the drying step of the process. I was kinda wondering if anyone knows the cubic footage needed for 1 lb of trimmed bud. I have a design in mind for my portable dry box but I'm uncertain the size to make it. Also I wanted to know what size glass jars would needed and how many to hold about a pound of trimmed bud. Thanks any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are lots of variables to your question. Are you hanging your plants at all? Personally if I had a lb or primo stuff I would want to dry it longer and slower than what you can do cut up in a box, that is just my personal view. In a dry box you would need enough surface area so that the buds were loosely fitting.....I guess the best way to do that is take an amount and spread it out how you would put it in the box and then do the math for the entire size. If you cut your plant up by the branch and hang you don't need as much space, the buds will dry more slowly and enhance the quality of the smoke and flavor. I store mine mostly in 2 gallon jars and the amount per jar varies with the type of bud going in the jar, I just always make sure that they have room to breath. These are just my opinions but I hope it gives you something to think about. Good Luck and let us know how it turns out.

Thanks for the reply your information got me thinking so I designed a portable drying room with built in air scrubbers I hope it works out the way i want it to. I plan on trimming the fan leaves and leaving the bud on the stems. then hanging them inside of my drying enclosure for a week or maybe two depending on how everything goes. I was thiking of mason jars for curing cause they are cheap and easy to find i can't find jars that are two gallons I'm guessing they are the big pickle jars. thanks for the speedy reply.

Nicely put buddy. Good to finally see a new person to the site, who also has intelligence.

and your completely right too. You never want to pack the jars too full, as this closes any air gaps, therefore blocks air flow, and also invites mold/bacteria to grow. The looser you put them in, the better. Nice job bud. ;)

peace..
