Question regarding CFLs

I'm a newbie grower. Right now I have a seedling under a really low wattage fluorescent bulb, but I'm heading to the store in awhile, and was wondering what to get if I'd like to try a CFL or two.

If I try to get a higher wattage CFL (like 100W or 200W), can I just buy a regular lightbulb socket and put the CFL right in? Or do I need to buy some kind of adapter?

I'm not too good with electronics. Please let me know.

Thanks a ton!

Most CFL lights are self ballasted, meaning they can be plugged into a normal light socket just like a normal house-hold bulb. Some of the bigger CFL grow lights that are 100 - 300 watts may require an e40 fitting which is basically just a slightly larger screw fitting. These e40 fittings normally just plug straight into the mains. Hope this helps :-)

i run cfls... like said most are self ballast... even the 100-150 watt ones i use.. u can screw em right into normal light sockets... and if your a new grower... remember the more light the better u want atleast 3,000 lumens per plant... should show a lumen rating on the side of the box... if it doesnt.. then u want atleast 1 50 watt cfl per plant should give u enough to grow..(real watts.. not equiv) also the ideal number is 10,000 lumens per square foot...
