Question on removing leaves

Hey i couldnt get a pic at the moment but both of my plants have some leaves i want to get rid of. On both of the plants the very first set of leaves are all dry and crumpled up, is it ok to cut them off? My bro said i should because they take up a lot of energy, figured i should get some more opinions

if you press down on the leaf close the main stem it should just fall off with little effort if its ready to go if not just leave it till it does thats what i do.

just did that and it worked both fell off haha thanks a lot man
