In interested in how auto flowering strains grow and how good they are quality wise being that from what I've read thus far ,they claim to I'm assuming be done growing in 2 to 4 weeks which to me sounds impossible ? How do these seeds get grown ? Do I plant them run a standard light and these babies are going to be ready for curing after just 4 weeks ? I found some northern lights auto flower and I'm thinking about growing them but it sounds too fast to have finished product in under 3 months ? Any help greatly appreciated, I have marijuana grow bible to guide me through grow and light cycles times

The main difference is that it's not light cycle dependent like a photo-period (non-auto). Autos, will automatically start flowering for you without changing light cycles - in around 3-5 weeks. Most people do 18/6 or 20/4 light cycles. Some do 24/0. You cannot top or fim them, because they cannot recover in time and you cannot keep them in vegatative state. That results in not being able to produce as big of a plant either. As far as potency, I grew a NL auto before, it was good, didn't have any complaints but a lot of people think they are less potent.

Just wanted to add that autoflowers are made by crossing with a species of marijuana known as Ruderalis. Ruderalis gives it the ability to flower as described by Triplec above, but the downside to that is Ruderalis has practically no THC and was labeled "ditch weed" by old timers long ago.

I'm not saying that no autoflowers can be dank, you can look around here and see that is not true. However, genetically you have a lot to overcome compared to normal photoperiod strains for producing top tier marijuana. You trade that off for the perceived "convenience" of growing autos.

People consider autos to be easier or faster to grow, it's really not true IMO. The only thing you really have to do different with photos, is change your light cycles from 18/6 to 12/12. That's not a hard thing to do. You can grow them the same way aside of that, you just get to choose when the plant flowers. Plus you get the added benefits of being able to top, fim, transplant and LST as much as you need or want. I doubt I'll ever grow another auto anytime soon.

Autos don't have a veg cycle. Non-autos go from seedling to veg state to flower state. Autos go straight from s'ling to flower mode. Just because they don't veg doesn't mean you can just deduct non-auto veg times from total grow time. Most of my autos finish around 8-10 weeks in dirt. Also, autos don't need a light change and do best with a 20/4 or 24/0 light schedule.

Good luck, BigSteve.

PS -- if space becomes an issue for you, autos will also grow/finish at 12/12.

Lighting is the main difference 18x6 versus 12x12, (the time it takes is close to the same amount of time) especially if you have a separate veg room. The autoflower's still smell dank with a skunk hybrid so you have to have the ventilation addressed. With all the other environmental factors the same, I go with the regular photo seeds for a larger yield.
If your doing autoflower's, may I suggest Samsara Seeds Ultravoilet. The seed review said UV's high is euphoric. Well, I'd say it rocked my world, knocking me on my rear. Dripping with resin, this sativa hybrid rocks whether smoked normally or made into wax. If I go back to auto's, Ultravoilet will be the reason.
