Question about transplanting.

Hello all and i appreciate all of you that do give feedback to this, im getting ready to start my offical first grow (without complications to say the least) and i was wondering if transplanting was necessary? I have 2 extremely big pots, measurements unknown i could get them if absolutely needed. But my question is it necessary to start them out in a smaller pot for say better growth production and to utilize the pots space to the fullest extent, or could i just throw in the seed into the oversized pot from the get go and not worry about it only growing 1 foot because it rootbounded itself, any feed back would be awesome.

Start them off in 16oz size cups then one gallon then 3 gallon.
The reason is ~ The roots will have small space to grow in and fill up room, then they will run out of room and start getting thick, about that time is when you would noticed the leafs are growing past container size (top) and thats when you move them to next container.
I am on a budget right now and could not follow this method, I normally do.
You can put them in a 3 gallon straight off if you wish. I had to this time.
Look below and see.
