Hi guys. A quick question here about genetics over time. I know very little about breeding. I understand crossing strains to breed out/in traits, but is it possible to selectively breed out Hermie traits in a single strain after a while?
Met a old dude who claims to have thousands of "landrace Sativa" from Laos and I scored a shit ton (like thousands) of seeds. he's been growing them for 30 years, and they are extremely tall. They have the most incredible Myrcene profile and smell like a million mango skins. The problem is that they come from a field of plants that were all heavily pollinated females, and about a third were proper hermaphrodite, with alternating male and female nodes. He has never been phased about seeds so just leaves the plants to live as they should. He's a big advocate of "natural progression".
Is it as simple as selecting plants that are closer to stable and create feminized seeds by reversal? Or is it better to do it the old school way and use a good male to pollinate stable plants over time?
Its probably not the best smoke, but the smell is full blown nostalgia. Brings me back.
