I use FF.. The only time I had problems was when I tried using hard water (500 ppm) I don't check the PH and I've grown in 3 different locations with very different water supply.

im not really having any problems, was just wondering what soil ph is most likely to do, get lower or higher ?

so mine is moor likely to rise then where im using fox farms nutrients..
No, it will still trend down.

FFOF is a peat based mix and is naturally acidic and gets more so as time goes on and it breaks down, chem nutes or organic. *Most* nutes, chems or organic, also tend to be acidic.

I've made my own peat based mix for a bit over 43 years now with only the last 6 years being organic. Even with the chem nutes lime was needed with the mix and was added as a matter of course for pH buffering.

FFOF adds oyster shell flour for pH buffering. The only problem is, they don't add enough to last the entire grow and sometimes causing problems in flower, either from pH or, lack of Ca. It does get consumed by the plant.

Adding 1cup/cf of mix prevents a LOT of problems. Dolomite lime, calcitic lime, or oyster shell flour all will work well.

Just throw a handfull of dolomite lime in the mix and forget it. I used to go crazy with pH until I realized its mostly bullshit (if you growing in soil), unless you did something drastic to drop/increase it pH wont be an issue. From normal feeding and supplementing the pH of the soil will go down but it will buffer itself if its a nicely mixed soil. Also dont waste money on FF soils, make your own for a 1/4 of the price and you can keep am,mending and reusing it. Good luck

ty guys, so if i just dont ph my watter,my soil ph should not drop much then right ?kus the ph of my water is like 7.5 if i dont change it it will not drop as fast

You need to ph your water/nutrients to 6.5 you're depriving your plant of vital nutrients with such a high ph.
i do ph my water it just drops in the soil after a while i have no prob bringing it back up im at 6.5 right now in the soil just figured if it was going to drop when i do ph my water then letting the ph in my water be a little high aint going to raise it in the soil if its dropping any way, but Im wrong i guess.... I did not ph nothing last year, they where out door plants, they had no problems at all but that may have been luck, and they was bag seed from who knows what kind of weed sure was some skunk kuz it smelled like dead skunks in my back yard

Sigh ....

I'll say this once and you can research it if you like ... or ... listen to the *experts* who couldn't find their ass with both hands and a flashlight.

Water, no matter the pH, will only affect the soil for a very limited amount of time. Like, as it's passing through to drain. The soil however, will affect the waters pH to match the soils. If your soil is buffered to a good pH range, so will be the water in a short amount of time, like less than an hour.

You saw this yourself, last year, with the outdoor plant. If the soils pH is right, you're good, no matter the water.

Trust your eyes and experience.

so if your soil is not buffered then what? and when you say buffered what exactly do you mean, like adding the dolomite lime? and if it was to get out of wack(not buffered)what do you suggest. I also use happy frog with added perlite. my tap water registers on average 8.0

Yeah, 'buffering/buffered' is adding the liming agent and its effects. If the mix gets out of wack from no buffering, a top dress will work in time. Just sprinkle 2tbl/gallon of mix on the surface (scratch it in some if you can), and regular waterings will do the rest.

Adding it to the mix before use is by far the easiest and most effective way of using lime. It is the second ingredient when I make my mix, peat moss being the first.

I mainly use dolomite lime, both powdered and granular. The granular is nothing more than the powder in a clay binder that dissolves with the first watering and is done for ease of application. It works just as fast. Both are ~$4.50/40lb bag at HD or Lowes.

Ahhhh ... Enlightenment

Instead of the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" mindset, a good bit of advice on MJ forums tend to, "If it ain't broke, give me a minute":wall:
