Question about my 400 Watt HPS and Timer!

Just ordered a 400 watt HPS setup complete with reflector hood, ballast, and bulb. I'm beginning the flowering stage soon, and need to use a timer to regulate light and dark while I'm away. Will a basic timer work with my HPS? How can I be sure? Any advice or help is greatly appreciated!

Usually most timers are rated in either AMPS or WATTS that they can handle.

YOu are looking for it to say inductive load and then a numbered amount.

I have had some timers that say they can handle an inductive load of 480w but then when i ran 200W ECO CFL through it, it then malfunctioned.

Here in the UK we have to use something called a horticultural lighting contactor which is a relay that helps regulate the pull from a ballast so as not to blow any timers.

You may just have to shop around for a timer. I believe there are some timers out there that will run up to 600w HPS systems so you should be able to find one.
