Question about Digital ballasts!

Hi guy's I' currently running 1000w magnetic ballasts and want to change to Digital ballasts, the question I have is this I've read that a 600w digital ballast is eqivelent to a 1000w magnetic ballast is this true? It said that the digital ballast makes the light more efficient and could come within 5% of what a 1000w magnetic ballast light puts out! If this is true can someone explain this to me please as a 400w difference is huge on the electric bill! If this isn't true I'll have to reconsider the 600w digital and go with the 1000w digital! Thanks and any and all help appreciated!

A 600 has been proven to be more effecient over a 1000. If you have to pick just one probably a 1000 is the way to go.. but if you are covering a larger area. 3x600's would beat out 2x1000's if done properly.

One thing to take into account is that the amount of light the plant is using from the light is increased by how close the light is to the plant. a 600 watt light can get closer to the plant.

As far as more lumens from a digital... I don't know but I do know I have seen a 600 watt digi lumatek running next to a 1000w magnetic and it was not a whole lot less bright so I would believe it to some extent but I did not scientifically prove that.. just what my eyes have seen.

attached is a generic lumen/distance chart.. It should give you some ideas.
