question about cloning

Stupid question probably. When making the cut does there have to be new growth below the cut site to ensure the branch will grow back? The reason I ask is that I have accidentally broken a branch before and nothing grew back. Thanks.

"Below the cut site", no, above the cut site yes. There should be at least 5-7 leaves of various sizes or a few leaf pairs. The cut can be made anywhere on the stem (so long as we have a suitable cutting), it just needs to be cut at a 45 degree angle or a slant, and then dipped into a good cloning gel and put in a suitable medium like Rapid Rooters.

Not sure i understand the question 100% but the best cuttings have a couple internodal branches above the cut site. These branches once cut off will be where your roots pop out of.
