Question about basement ventilation

I am planning on growing in a basement with no windows and a major concern is heat. I plan on putting one of those portable air conditioners with a hose for the exhaust in there to keep it at a reasonable temperature. The problem is the exhaust hose. If I put it to my cold air return vent and sealed it, would it work?

Thanks bongsmilie

Can you install a split AC? The reason I suggest that is it's low profile, keeps your compressor outside the house (and super quiet), and you don't have to deal with ducting, just 2 pressure tubes that are copper and real small diameter.

Plus, if there's an issue with the compressor, any regular A/C guy can service it outside your house and will stay out of your room without you havign to drag the unit anywhere to get it services/repaired.

I'm not too familiar with split AC. I have no way of getting any kind of vents or tubes outside of the basement because I don't wanna mess with the foundation. Would it work if I put the compressor in another room? I don't care if the other rooms down here get hot, I just need the one to get under 90.
