Pruning,Cloning,Sexing outdoors

Hi all,
I was just wondering to sex my plants before I dig big massive holes and fill them with expensive soil is it a good idea to top my plants, bring those tops in to root em with 12/12 for 2-3 weeks to determine their sex? I would label the pot in which the plant i topped from and label the cutting that is being rooted. Plants are on their 6th node. Plan on topping when they are on their 7th and cut in between their 5th and 6 th node. This way I would be topping my plants and they will still get their 18hrs of sun allowing for vigorous veg growth.

O.k. well I decided to do some research to find out the best way to sex my outdoor plants. I had to find the answer to this question so This is what I found. Seems very promising, Going to give it a try. Has anyone ever attempted to do this? If so how did you do it? how long to determine sex?

"Ok so here is the senario, I topped all of my plants, after about the 5th or 6th node, filled solo cups with water, took a piece of tinfoil and placed it over the top and poked a little hole in it. placed growing shoot from each plant i topped so the stem was in water. I placed them in a dark cabinet for 72 hours with no light, then gave them about 8 hours of ambient light a day after the original 72 hours... They all showed sex within 5-7 days... no roots nothing,

For me this is the fastest and easiest way to sex outdoor plants early... i will probably clone now that I know the sex, this way i am not wasting time cloning males."
