My plants are in the beginning of the 3rd week of veg. about 10% of them the smaller weaker ones are severely affected. The stronger plants have tip burn and yellowing leaf edges with curling up of the leaf edges. I was told by Roy at Advance that this was Magnesium deficiency. This started last week and the following actions were taken.

Flushed with 5.6 PH RO water for 2 watering cycles.
Drained the res 1/2 way and filled back up with RO water.
Sprayed plants with 2% Epson salts solution.
These actions were taken Wednesday thru Saturday.
Got my PH/TDS meter on Friday.
Res cleaning on Saturday.

Res change data:

PPM 730
PH kept between 5,6 and 5.8 it does swing up a lot, but I'm bringing down before watering.
Room Temp varies between 75 and 84 degrees.

Detailed Nutrient info in grow report.

1st 2 photos smaller more affected plants.
3rd & 4th photos example of healthier plants with tip burn & edge yellowing.

Please help with suggestion I really want to get this under control before it becomes a major problem.

i'm no expert but it looks like nute burn or even heat stress to me. unfortunately, it could also be a deficiency as they can look similar...

here is a link to a plant abuse page...

Hey all thanks for the feedback.

I'm using 2 sets of lights right know the main light which has most of the healthy plants under it is a T-5 54 watt 8 bulb using a Sun Systems New Wave 48 reflector. The lamp was around 4 inches over the plants and is now 7" over the plants. I thought heat stress could be a problem so I move them up.

The 2nd light is a 150 watt Eco Plus Flourecent with a Sun System Bright wing reflector. This is also about 7 inches over the plants.

Here's some 6 more pictures focusing on the healthy plants and there issues.

Thaks again for your feedback:hump:

I was afraid to spray to much of the solution so I was just giving a light spray once a day. I up that starting this morning and have already sprayed the plants 3 times today. They seem to look a little better. I will update with pictures at the end of the day.

Well the plants are growing well besides what I think is a magnesium deficiency.

I'm going to flush the plants for 2 days to see if I can get the plants back to 100% healthy. There is a significant amount complete tip burn and starting to burn on leaf edges. The tip and leaf edge burn is now worse than the prvious photos in this thread.

I think the problem was caused by to many nutes. I followed the Advance Nutrients calculator which is wrong for the 1st 2 weeks of Veg. I reduced the amount of nutes on my last res change but the damage was already done.

I'm open to any suggestions.

Funny that you say that, I used the AN feeding schedule on the bottle for AB grow and burned mine too. Roy (AN guy) told me later that he should have put another week in the beginning of the schedule for seedlings.

But he helped me out a lot since then, he told me to start them at 300ppm (seedlings one week old)

Good luck,
Unity:mrgreen:

Well I started the fresh water flush on this afternoons feeding and the plants color is already better. You can see that the plants with edges that wern't burnt to badly are turning green again. I lifted up a couple plants this evening and there was a major root explosion through the bottom of the pots. I will flush the plants for a couple more days before I put back on nutes. I did flush the plants last week but for only 2 watering cycles. It wasn't long enough.

When I spoke with the guy at the hydro shop he said AN has been saying they need to change the calculator for a long time.

It's kinda funny they have the money to do all the advertising they are famous for, but they can't change a nutrient calculator which is wrong and screwing up there clients grows.
