Pro Grow 260 vs (2) 180

So I've been reading a lot of great things on the 260watt pro grow, especially in flower. I have a 36"x20" grow tent (63" tall). I cant decide wether I want the PG260 or 2 of the PG 180's. Any advice would help (+rep).

If set on a pro grow, I'd go with the newer x5 or 260x.
Any reason to why? I've yet to read any journals using either. One of the main differences from the PG 260 to the PG260x listed on the website is that the 260x has a larger footprint. At $180 more this isn't a deal breaker for me for that fact that my grow operation is so small anyway (36x20x63).

The 260 x is 260 watts the 180 is 160 watts. So 2 180's will be 320 watts and have better coveragen. If I went pro grow. I would get multiple 180's. Better deal. The 5x is probably has dual chips which does no last as long as single chips

Bigger footprint, better penetration, should run quieter than the older versions. I've never used them but I can only imagine they be better than their predecessors.

Thanks guys. +rep to you.

i would get multiple. you can cover more space than just one. i have a pg180 and like it.
I heard that Pro Grows tend to run a bit loud. How loud do the 180's sound? Ill be sleeping fairly close to mine, but thankfully i'm a heavy sleeper. My original setup had a 250watt with cooltube connected to a 165cfm inline fan. Do you think the PG180 is louder than the fan?

heavy sleeper on top of your delicious buds your about to make will drown out the sounds :bigjoint: all jokes aside, im sure its quiter than the inline fan and ballast....but it will still get warm/hot so you'll need some sort of ventilation so if you're keeping the inline fan then im sure its going to be louder:sad:. im no LED pro but i will be soon =) good luck bro!

... you want utter silence then get something without fans....

maybe right for the old EVOs

but now...2 Built-in high performance fan

(Quietly and reliably, thanks to dual ball bearing)

If you must get pro grow then rather get the 260X, the 180's will still be less intense even at 2x than the 260X. They are not as loud as everyone goes on about, if you want utter silence then get something without fans....

I own pro grows so I don't think they are loud but I am not a small set up in a bedroom, I have multiple rooms running all kinds of equipment...
Nice. I think the 260x is at the top of the list. I'm assuming you have multiple brand LED's(???). What other brands would you consider for a tent my size?

I have the same size tent and use (2) Blackstar 240's. Fits the tent nicely and they are doing their job so far. I haven't used any other LEDs as this is my first grow but i was seriously impressed with the Pro Source Illuminators after watching their commercial grow vid on YouTube. check it out

Well your space is 3x1.75ft give or take so I would look at the shape of a panel before delving further. The 260X is a perfect size for you. Other panels are either going to be square/rectangular which will require 2x for best coverage in the corners, if you intend doing two plants at a time you can bank they will fill the corners and it then becomes necessary to give as much light in those corners as the middles. If you intend doing it, DO IT RIGHT!!

I'd say anything between 200W and 400W is enough power and would give you plenty product. Whatever a panel promises to do bump up to the next panel up. There are plenty choices however.

Thanks dude. I'm trying to get this done right. I also have a 250watt hps with cooltube. Think I'd be able to add the hps with the 260x panel during flower for a few hours without getting too hot?

I don't see the point unless you find a way to place both light sources in such a way that the light spread is even and equal, in such a small space I don't see that happening and frankly not worth it considering the size. It's either or if you know what I mean.

If you insist on mixing HPS why not get 2x 75W HPS bulbs to hang on either side of the cab with the LED centrally. Although this makes things more complicated by having to get the new bulbs whilst you own the 250 already. In such a small space I dont see the point of 2 light sources...
