so since the winter was so warm for most places do you think its going to be really hot this summer? possible hot enough to cause food shortages? would you be prepared for this? also another one would you be prepared if the electricity went out for maybe weeks and everyone started looting stores and shit. would you be prepared to eat and survive without going out into the chaos that would be in the streets?

Mormons store at least two years of food and up to a month of water. We're prepared.

You have to be prepared if you're going to have 27 wives.
Oh hey, I wonder if any mormon ever got divorced by all of his wives at one time? That would make an interesting child support hearing.

As far as food and H2O are concerned I don't have much time. My approach is going to be that I will be well armed with ammo to last two years. I know it sounds primitive but if things get that bad I would rather be the predator than the prey. There will be lots of unarmed people I can take advantage of.

I'm glad that this is in the Toke N Talk forum.

Got a stocked pond, live near lakes and rivers, got a diesel generator, backyard farmer, ex-hunter but still got all my toys, and a predator by nature.

We'll be good.

I think it ALL depends on the type of disaster. If I can forage for shellfish and pop a deer now and then fine but if I can't drink pond water and it's a contamination type issue then I'm screwed. I don't think I'm gonna become a prepper but I could be better prepared. Rice, Beans, Pasta and water are straight forward but where would you get protein in bulk. Oh Christ were all screwed!!

Cool topic. A quick shudder of aingst dictates some anxiety medication. bongsmilie

Here in the NW it's been pretty damn textbook for the entire winter. Cold and rainy with the occasional snow shower.

People are trippin in 2012

protein in bulk? buy a few jugs of powdered Whey. As per your dirty water, buy iodine drops-dual purpose, water purification and clean wounds.
honestly from all the survival shows ive watched im pretty sure i could easily, well not easily, rough it out for a while. Solar stills, sand filtered water, simple devices and traps. a buncha ropes/chordage is alwyas good. fire starting with sticks/chemicals/magnifying glasses/magnesium stips etc. Something as simple as putting down a quick grass bedding in your lean-to can make all the difference. If your not physically prepped always be atleast mentally prepped

beans are good protien. buy dry bean theres easy to store and super cheap. one half cup is equal to one can. and half a cup of beans has 8.5 grams of protien. i think the main thing someone would need is a way to cook, a fire or a propane grill if they have enough propane. a pan and some water

cn!!! Ever been in an Andean Plane crash? This is a fun topic. Your spot on about the beans dank and there is always firewood. You don't NEED a varied diet so fill up the basement with beans, Rice, pain killers, weed, brew, and H2O. I like it.. The "preppers" on TV have freakin Hamburger Helper and Fresca on the shelves. I actually ate an MRE not to long ago and it was HOT Mac and cheese and wasn't bad. Even had hot sauce. mmmm. MRE's must cost a fortune. Dang it I sure hope there is a disaster on my watch. Maybe a good " I Am Legend " virus.

Andean? No. But a Brooks Range plane crash is just a big ol' aluminum chimichanga. cn

Here's Cousin Dragomir (note the family resemblance.) thinking "smells like Danish. I lurve Danish!"

Uh HUH. And then there are those of us who have prepared for the predators you describe within the above.

Ya know what... while we are not prepared whipping things up is kind of our specialty...I believe that were the shit to hit the fan we and my family would precariously manage to climb from the rubble alive...
