Preparing for first grow, using Aerogarden...

Hi everyone,

I have been reading a lot here and doing my homework. Since I have never grown before I opted to try the Aerogarden. Actually two of them will be used side by side in a box I built.

The purpose of this thread is to hopefully gather suggestions and tips or learn about potential problems with my setup.

So far I have built a box that is 40" wide, 48" tall, and 20" deep. I put in a vent on the front where a 6" fan will pull fresh air into the box. A 4" inline fan will be used on the outside of the box to pull the air out of the box and hopefully through the carbon filter. The box will be covered in mylar.

I have 2 of the Aerogarden Veggiepro units that I plan on sitting side by side in the box. I have 4 27w CFL bulbs that I was planning on hanging down in front of the plants. I was also thinking about taking the top off of the Aerogarden units and using the lights it comes with on the sides, and possibly getting a 400w HPS for the top lighting as from everything I've read the lights that come with the Aerogarden aren't enough.

I am wondering if this setup would create a heat problem?

I'm going to be using Advanced nutes and I was going to put an airstone in each reservoir. I've got a PH meter and will be learning how to get that right. What else might I be missing? Thoughts or suggestions are appreciated?
