Preparing for 2014 season. Advice, opinions

Here's the story,

Setup: I'm only growing three plants in 7 gallon GeoPots
As of now I am planning on mixing FFOF and FFHF as my medium (i think 1.5 cubic ft of OF and 2 cubic ft HF should be enough to fill my pots)
I'll will be adding perlite and water crystals into the mix as well, along with anything else you guys think I should add to the mix
I would also like to put some kind of small wiring around the plants to protect them when the are smaller.

Location:
I'm in the northeast. The one perfect spot I have is kind of marshy. Like if it rains a lot there will be standing water for about 2-3 days after. I thought this might be of use to me because these fabric pots tend to dry out, and it might help me make less trips to water them in the summer.

Strains:
THC BOMB fem.
Barney's LSD fem
White rhino x Mazar fem
2 x White Widow reg
Assorted collection of bag seeds
I'm most likely going to to grow the first three since they are feminsed seeds.
Unless you guys think the strains won't do well or finish on time

Starting Off:
I was wondering if i could just pop the seeds right into the pots from the get. Or is it better if i start them of in my backyard first. I'm not planning on planting until mid/late may. I'm not looking for monsters, I just want a nice personal stash.

I would really appreciate it if anyone as any comments or criticism they would like to impose.

I would love to use bigger pots, but that means more money spent on soil and more bags that i gotta hull into the woods. You really think I don't need the crystals?

I would do bigger pots if you could like 15 or 30 gallon and that will help keep moisture in the pot too since there will be more soil I just think 7s will dry out almost every other day with a 6 or 7 footer drinking out of it mid summer.

Well for now that's what i'm sticking with, if its that much of a problem i guess i could still just transfer them to bigger pots. What about mulch? i here mixed comments about using it

I would just get a good organic mic like fox farms or roots organic

I use roots organic the reg bags not the 707 and the stuff works great you hardly have to use nutrients because it's packed with good organic stuff already

Alot of growers here use mulch so that the sun doesn't cook the roots. You should be fine in 7 gallon pots if you are able/willing to water them on time. Also if you get good rain that would cool. This plant was grown in a 7 gallon pot, but was well cared for. I believe Fdd2blk was the grower.

Here are some plants in 5 gallons. Came out pretty beasty. Idk who grew these.

Just make sure that when/if you transplant, you transplant before they are rootbound in the 7 galls because you don't want to tear the rootball. That would suck.

I'm around the 39th parallel.. I'd start them off within the next week or two and wait til the last week of May to plant outdoors if you're anywhere near there. Our last frost date is usually around the 21st of May. Good Luck!!

FFOF needs nothing but water...why over complicate things?...as stated above mixing in mulch for roots in pots is a good idea if your temps are high...other than that...it's a plant, plant it...

As much as I would love to brew a tea up, thats not an option. And like passthat2me said, I think those to soil mixed together should be plenty for now. Maybe the first 2 months. How much mulch should I top dress with?

2-3 inches of mulch should be fine. 4 would be good. You should start the plants in your backyard first. so that you can monitor them. They could make a nice little snack for a slug if you plant them straight in the bush.

Yeah I was planning on keeping them with me for a little bit. I'm defiantly gonna buy some kind of slug murdering product. I saw some while i was out there last year. I'm in the 40th parallel btw. So I found a hydro store that carried FFHF and just bought it there. They had OF and some roots organic products but i already ordered my shit online

Sevin dust works great for slugs. And Tanglefoot too. Just don't get the tanglefoot on your own skin. It's a bitch to get off.

this stuff i saw was called sluggo, it's some kind of powder. Should i only apply that like around the plants? and another question, if i decided to use the mulch, would i have to move it outta they way everytime i add nutes or would want to top dress with something?
