pre-sexing? I failed at it on my last grow.

So I couldnt tell the difference between a make or a female until they flowered no matter how hard I looked. Did i miss something? does anyone think they can help me out, and lastly, is it reliable, because I dont want seeds in my buds again this time.

How long did you veg for before you flowered? Some strains take longer than others to show preflowers(they show em in veg). Me and a buddy work with some indica dominants that show after about 4 weeks from seed. Other strains may take longer. I think for your second run you'l be able to tell a lot better because you know what your looking for. The first time is tough but after youve seen a few female flowers it gets easier.

See I thought that the whole point of pre-sexing was to be able to tell sex before flowering. I'm an outdoor grower and I dont have the space for a mother plant to take clones off of. I could buy feminized but that is more expensive. I have seeds from my last grow and would like to use those since they are climatized, but I really dont want to have me bud full of seeds again. So let me be a little more specific in my questions.

1. is presexing reliable or is it always risking and I run the chance of having males in my garden. Every male in my garden is one less female, or worse it may seed my entire crop.

2. when does the plant show its sex. I have read 4 weeks I have read 7-9 weeks and some people say presexing is bogus and you have to wait until flower.

I use a 30x loupe to look, that is 1 thing. I look at the node under the top node, and also at the top node for sex, that is 2. I could not tell the sex of several plants after 7 weeks veg and just grew them out. If you get a male you have about 4 weeks to get rid of him after he shows sex, so no mass pollination is going to happen.

I start all my plants out 12/12 from seed (unless their fem seed) until they show sex, toss the males and throw the females back to 18/6. That way I know I have all females vegging and I'll know what I'm going to have before I actually flower them.

Sweetswisher, how much time do you loose for them to return to re-veg ?? seems like a lot longer process, maybe try this.. grow the bean in veg light, for the time you would like to veg, (less one week) take a clipping, place it in a shot glass of water and 2 drops of maxi crop sea weed, now place that "clipping in shot glass only in 12/12" no need for roots on the clipping, she/he will still flower in 5 to 10 days with
out roots.

you only need to do this on plants that are hard to see "pre" flowers.

some strain are hard if not impossible to see with out some form of flowering, but this possess make it a snap. good luck, happy growin....Marry Christmas!

Depending on the strain usually just an extra week of veg to get them to kick back into veg, if that makes sense. Some strains take forever to re-veg and will start putting out 1 bladed leaves and then 3 blades and so on. What you said does sound like a good idea though. I just do it the way I explained above so I'm not wasting soil, light, and nutes on a plant that could turn out male. But ya the re-veg can slow things down.

You can also cover one branch of the plant, like a sucker branch, with something dark and can breath, remover it from that branch every 12 hours, and test for males this way. hope it helps Marry Christmas.

im growing 6 hashberries right now and 2 showed early female pistils so i cloned them and threw the rest into flower... three of those turned out to be males and one actually turned out to be a female. so i guess what im saying is im not sure if all plants actually show preflowers because those 2 hashberries had preflowers and that other female didnt until 3 weeks later
