Pre-flower to determine sex while still in solo cups?

Would it be possible to leave plants in a 16 oz solo cup until you are able to determine sex by the pre-flowers? I have a magnifying glass and I heard that it takes 4 or more weeks to show pre-flower. Dont really want to transplant any potential males unless I have to, but I don't want to stunt any growth either

The only problem I foresee is they may become root bound dependent on how vigorous they are when growing. If they become root bound then they will not manage to take up the required nutrients from your growing medium through the roots which then can lead to deficiencies & lockout...... Your grow, your call ??

Ive thought of doing the clone thing but I'm kind of new at this and I don't have an extra grow space for 12/12. I suppose I could put the clones in a black 5 gallon bucket in my grow room (closet), only taking the lid off for 12 hours a day

You will still need air exchange during lights out or you will be suffocating them for 12 hours. Good luck

if so important to you

why not buy feminized in the first place ..?

You may be able to with certain strains/phenos but most I've run won't show from seeds for several weeks which is difficult to keep * in good shape * long enough to sex them in a cup. I just had one that I was able to sex but I kept it in the cup for like 7 weeks from seed and it looks like shit, will take a week or two to get it growing properly again. That was just a matter of space and time but I normally wouldn't do this. I just up-pot to 1gal and I can always sex them in there and keep even one's that take forever to sex in the 1gal's (fabric/smart pots) without getting root bound. If you do anything to force sex them do it with a clone. When you throw any plant into flowering, you can revert it but you'll lose weeks and end up with mutant growth.

Yes, anything's possible, not necessarily a good option. I've grown a couple of females and even males in them, just enough pollen to test some crosses. Problem is whether male or female you can't really get a clone as to flower in a cup you pretty well have to go straight to 12/12 from seed. The genetics will determine how much you get in a cup more than anything and although I've seen some guys get up to 40 grams, more normal/average yields are 8-15 grams dialed in. Not bad but you better be doing a lot of cups to get any decent weight out of them.

Here's my last male in a cup:
