I everyone how’s everybody doing? I have a question, I’m Growing in soil( Foxfarm ocean forest.) this is my second grow first grow didn’t go too bad but there’s something I have to understand. Ppms or ec how do I know what my plant is uptaking between waterings ? Let me see if I mix nutrients and ph my water and I shoot for 1000 ppm in flowering.then my second watering just water and test runoff to check ppm if it’s lower the difference would be what my plant uptook in 2 days?. Am I close ?

Sorta ... Yes, lower ppm in the runoff is desireable, to be certain buildup is not occuring. It should not be expected to get precise measurements of any sort from runoff, in soils like OF especially.
Runoff EC will vary greatly depending on the moisture content before the watering, amount of aeration material, or even the type of amendments used in the mixes.
Not saying it's useless to monitor, but it's not as accurate as we all wish it were.
In fact, at times it can be downright misleading...

No, forget runoff in soil, far too complex for us to know whats going on.

Just work out a schedule and learn to read the plant.

If you insist on wanting to control runoff, ppms and ph then you should stop using soil and try hydro.

Somewhere there must be a lot of threads on ph and soil runoff because thats the last thing soil growers do in the real world :-)
