PPM seems high with Flora Trio

Hello all,

I mixed a test batch of Flora Trio + CalMag to see where ppm’s where. 3gal in my DWC bucket puts me 2” below net. Im using filtered tap water with a starting ppm of 115. I added based on that popular chart I have attached at the seedling stage. 15ml of CalMag and 3.75ml each of the trio. This puts my ph corrected water at 530ppm. Even if I was using RO water id still be at 415. For the seedling stage, 415 seems high doesnt it??

Nah I feed with around 400 ppm on my seedlings and that's with RO water I think you are fine with that strength

what are your ppm’s at other stages? I plan to mix some test batches for different stages to get some ppm baselines.

I run around 1000 PPM once they start getting big, topping out at 1200.

I have read other users use way less nutrients as well and have good results.
If you don't give the plants alot of light and the proper environment, they aren't going to need full strength nutes. When everything is dialed in you will be able to feed heavier, It is a game of balance and setting things all up perfectly to get your plants to use the nutrients you add

If you think your grow isn't fully dialed in or not comfortable, you can just go at a lower PPM and slowly work your way up.

Here is a chart @Renfro made that I've been following


Per Gallon of RO H2O
Armor Si = 2 mL
Calimagic = 5 mL
Epsom Salt = 1 gram
GH Micro = 6.67
GH Grow = 6.67
GH Bloom = 8.33

I just do 1/4-1/2 dose of this during the cutting/seedling stage then when I think they can take it I ramp up to full strength.

Now that I'm thinking about this more~~ I am running DTW coco, which I think you can run much higher PPM in. I have no experience running DWC so you may want to run a lower strength of nutrients for that type of hydro

If you're using plain tap water on your seedlings / clones you'd be surprised not having to add much nutrient at all~ They get pretty big with nothing. If you have the extra time/space do an experiment, try one with water only and see how big it gets before it starts losing some leaves. This will help you determine when you can feed your very young plants

Thanks for the info. Trying to get a gauge to if my tap starting ppm is to high to grow with being 115ppm. I will get an RO filter if I “HAVE” to but if I dont need to then I dont want to.

I have grown without RO water before fine. I don't think its essential but I just installed an RO filter and my ph is so much more stable. Also from my experience water ppm varies depending on season. Mine is under 150 sometimes and up to 250 or more. I have well water so it's more prone to impurities depending on season and weather.

I've also grown without a chiller but man I just got one and I love. The peace of mind is great. Water temp is something I never have to watch out for anymore.

GH trio I always mixed according to their chart and it's basically foolproof I think.

Thanks for the tips. I plan to try using beneficial tea first with an air cooled idea I have first before getting a chiller. Cheaper and easier route that many have success with. My air cooler Idea should get the res the same temp as my house (~70). That plus the bennies should be ok I would think in fighting any form of root problems.
