Potting mix medium problem

Hello! I'm a new but very passionate grower! I'm trying to grow some autos indoor in something labeled as "nitrogen-rich potting mix". The problem is that the plants don't grow as they should. Their roots don't grow quite well, and this medium remains wet forever after wattering, it never dries out, which is frustrating, because I can't figure out when should I water again and feed them. What am I missing? How is this "potting-mix" supposed to be used? Should I mix it with real soil or anything else? Why does it never dry out? I've heard is because of the peat moss in it that retains moisture, but for that long? Please help me out to understand how to use this medium.

This is the medium's description, for more info:

CANNA Terra Professional is a nitrogen-rich potting mix for plant cultivation. Your plants grow best in a nitrogen-rich potting mix. CANNA Terra Professional potting mix is unlike anything you will find in a garden centre. It contains a blend of upgraded black peat, granulated peat moss and perlite. If you are going to grow indoors or outdoors, this is the potting mix you want to use.

Most often it dosent dry because it has no where near the warmth of outdoors and not the soils fault. If i put a potted plant in full sun allday it might need watering every two to three days.

Ots the small details that have persistently made life hard over the years :-)

My tent temps are 70-80 F (20-25C). Humidity is 50-60% as I am in early veg. (end of week 2). I try to keep my environment in the best parameters and condition. Dunno what to say, but thanks for your attention!

You need to mix Perlite in with the soil. Use As A Soil Amendment And To Improve Aeration And Drainage. If what you have is straight soil then use like 70% soil and 30% Perlite

Tried to grow in this potting mix soil 2 times. The 2nd time I added aditional perlite. Same result.

An appropriate sized pot and warm environment will never keep it wet for very long.

Are the massive pots and small plants by chance? :-)

I always use Fox Farms Happy Frog soil adding 10% additional Perlite and use small USB fans to keep the air circulating around the underside of the plants. I have never had a soil problem doing this.

I know about Fox Farm soil, but unfortunately it cannot be found where I live.

I use that exact soil, great soil, drains well, but better if u add xtra perlite, no feeds needed till about 50 days, water only ph to about 5.8 during veg and 6.2 ph for flower. My autos end up vegging for atleast 45 days everytime in that mix and end up huge

We have the same soil and same pots size, yet mine doesn't get dry. All that's left as a problem is the wattering itself. Maybe my wattering technique is wrong? How you doing it? Can you write your wattering method? Thank you for your time, I appreciate it!

You're likely watering too much. You don't need to water every day.
No, I'm not wattering it every day, as I am trying to go for a wet-dry cycle, so I aim to water every 3 days or more, deppending when it gets dry, I know the basics, still it never dries out, that's the problem.

As PURPLEB3RRYKUSH was saying it is a nice mix that will get through vegging, but I did find like you were saying that it does have a serve aeration problem if you don't add something to make the mix more porous! Anyhow, the two time I have used that mix, after doing my routine dry-out test, I cut mine with 40% more perlite to get the mix into the dry-out range that I like my soil or soilless mediums to be at.

So, you're saying that I should add some more perlite to the mix before putting it in the pot. 40%? Like...if my pot has 11 litters, I add 4 perlite and 7 soil? That's what you mean? I never mixed anything, only used premade comercial soil.

I water till about half a litre comes out bottom of pot as runoff, mid veg they get about 3 litres of water each

I agree with PURPLE3RRY. I do 30% if none already in soil mix. If it already has it like Fox Farms I still add 10% more. At 4 weeks veg I have a pretty strong sea of green going.
