Pots for pot

Hi everyone out there in the far flung corners of the known and unknown quarters of the universe!

Up to now I’ve been an outdoor grower, but I want to give Indoor growing a try. As I’ve been growing straight into Soil, I’m not sure about correct sizing / shapes of pots
Planning on growing a couple of Sativas and a few Autos? Same size pot for both or larger for the Sattvas?

At a minimum, 5 gallon pots are your best bet. If you are going to grow monster sativas, perhaps even a 7 gallon pot if your grow space can accommodate them.

But I wouldn't recommend going any smaller than 5 gallons.

You can get the 5 gallon air pots or smart pots which work well but are a bit pricier. Or, you can go with a tried and true method - the good old 5 gallon plastic Lowe's or Home Depot bucket. I am sure a lot of folks on RIU have grown some dank nuggets in a Lowe's or Home Depot bucket.

Ya, nice 1 for the advice! Found something almost identical in Europe.

As I’ve grown with compost on sandy soil, I never had problems with waterlogged plants and root rot.

How do u stop pots from becoming waterlogged; On sandy soil outdoors I never had problems, as free drainage was always guaranteed
Plastic containers you rely on drain holes. With grow bags it's possible to overwater but you really have to try.

I've always used the cheap, black, plastic 5 gallon nursery pots. They do the job just fine.

Depends on many factors: soil type, mixture, temperature, humidity, plant size, and more.

Lift the pot. If it feels light, water it until you get some runoff. Lift it again to feel the weight. As long as it feels heavy, don't water it.

How often / how much do u water (average)

I've read 12-16oz per gallon, and that has worked for me(every 3-4 days)Of course,as mentioned, many variables are also involved.By recommendation by another member(I have a very small space) I went with 7 gal square cloth pots.Being square, they take up less space(widthwise)then a 5 gallon black plastic pot. I'm in a water only soil, going 7 gallons was to have enough 'nutes' for the whole grow.

Container size can really depend on how much space you have. If you're going for more of a Sea of Green affect, then 2.5 gallon pots would likely do just fine. If you're wanting to do a lesser number of larger plants, then it's really hard to go wrong with 5 gallon buckets/fabric pots. Fabric pots are preferable for most people because you're less likely to have drainage issues, but the soil will dry out more quickly, so you might need to water more frequently.
