'Pot' Pourri Anyone ?

Hi guys, my first inquisitive post ...

I have done about 6 grows now and have been rather succesful, BUT ... I have had one or two suspect plants in the last two grows.

The plants themselves looked great and were covered in trichomes, but the buds themselves smell piney and like pot pourri, the g/f smokes it and it smells fine whilst smoked, but the sickly sweet smell on breaking it up prior has no Baggy appeal at all and to be honest would not drop well in a house of connosoirs.

The strains were varied, but most were from ''Sensi Seeds'' Shiva Skunk, Ultra Skunk (indoors) and Amstel Gold (Outdoors)

Any ideas ?

Oh by the way I use All Mix Soil, and Bio Grow, Bloom and Top Max as recommended throughout the grow.

What do you mean... the buds were wispy, unsubstantial?

Too much heat can cause wispy buds, likewise not enough light.

No, to look at they are very nice, but when you break open a nug it has a funny smell, not nasty in the sense that it makes your toes curl, but just not a smell associated with a good sticky icky. More the smell associated with an Old ladies Lavaory scent spray.

Could well of been heat, as the start of the project was in the Summer time and atmospheric heat alone did become a factor early on.

TeeHC, you ordered seeds... and then grew out the seeds.... when ever you do that, your gona get what they call diffrent pheno types.. plants are like brothers and sisters... not all family members look exactly the same, there is genetic verity... now i'm not gona get too complex into genetics, but just realise... mom and dad bang.. mom puts off seed... not all the seeds are going to be exactly the same there all going to have some genetic verity....

see when you buy a pack of 10 seeds, your really only looking for one plant... that perfect plant out of the 10 that is better then all the rest, then you clone that plant... and you just grow that one plant, so you have stable genetics... other wise if you just go from seed you have to deal with the genetic variation... like one of the girls may be have a bigger appitite then one of the other girls... so the trick is, to find that one perfect plant, keep it as a mother plant, then take clones off of it... that way every plant in your room will be the same exact plant... that way you can reallllly get your nutriants dialed in, cuz every plant wants the same thing, they are all in essance the same plant... then at that point if some of the plants have a poor turn out, you know it is your grow setup... something you have to change...

but when you have a bunch of genetic variation you can not expect all of the plants todo equaliy as well... and the seed banks really don't tell you much about the stability of there genetics, but most seed you get unles it says IBL (Inner Bread Line) your going to have a bit of genetic variation... these variations are called pheno types...

Yeah I guess so, I'm too early days to start cloning and I dont live in a town where i can walk into a shop and collect clones, and so you are correct ion saying that it is indeed from seed, and I understand about the genetic structure, and the fact that there are mutants etc.

And so it might not be anything wrong with my technique, just bad luck ??

yeah, thats pretty much it, i get your system is just dandy, any system can be made better, but the plant is what makes the system..... like having a mother plant is what its alll about, trust... it may take some time to get going... but look back on how much you have spent on seeds... etc etc.. imagine if you still had 1 mom for each pack of beans you bought.. i would imagine you would just keep indoor moms do, you would have 2 moms, you 2 best plants from each of your pack, that smoke would be readly avliable to you within 3months time of cuttiing a clone...

thats my whole things now, getting mom's... these next packs i'm getting i'm takin the time to do it right... mainly cuz its double strawberry diesel and the genetics just arnt gona be around... plus the price of beans... for the real good ones.. man, tooo much, to just growem out for me anymore at least and i've tossed some coin at beans in my day... plus.. when you work with the same plant over and over.. you get the nutriants dialed right in perfect for that plant... so the smoke keeps getting better cuz your growin the plant to its max potenchial, when you hear about these guys getting 2lbs per 1000watts its not just cuz of some fancy nutriants... its cuz there growing a cloned plant.... thats how you get that perfect canopy, now don't get me wrong i'm personaly a big fan of the jungle... i love jungle style, everything is a little diffrent, thats good stuff.. but if you want maxx yeild and everything to be like boom, gotta clone and making a mother plant is pretty easy... i had an artical for it online making abonzi mother, its a little differnt then just growing a plant i dit, but you can keep a well trimmed mother plant just like a bonzi tree in a litte pot... like 2 - 3 galon pot, then its like once a year you do root matance, like shave off 1 inch all around the root ball, then repot it in the same pot with some fresh soil put in where you shaved off around the root ball... i duno..... thats what i'm about to be in the process of doing. . i think genetics is where its at... when the fed drops and the medical sean sweaps the nation, its gona be all about the rare genetics from seed, that are true mothers... cuz if you take a clone of a clone of a clone of a clone.. some people say there is no degridation, but i personaly beleave there is... from seed mothers for taking clones is where its at in my mind.... then you can justify paying some money for some kick ass beans... some of the good seed companies will even tell you what expect pheno wise.. (what the diffrent plants will look like / be like) so you can even get 1 or 2 moms out of a pack, i'm just alll cought up in the genetic race.. plus i'm real high.. been smokin str8 kief... but dude yeah, genetics, knowing what you have, what it will do, being able to exploit the full potenchial of your grow... thats where its at ...

on that nota... i'm going back to the kief screen for a good night wackarooonie....

ohh and not to be rood, but i just found out cuz i just registered the toher day, that the scale things over on the right of the post, thats like some kinda high five system or something... its how these guys go from being strangers to, learing how to rolll, to.. the next stage... so its like ebay you give me good feed back and i'll do the same well in this case i'll give you some first... cuz i know how... and i'm here, no reason to put off till tomarrow what you can do today...

Nice one, I did indeed go to scales and tip ya.

I'm at this moment just awaiting my Top44 to finish, unfortunately the pots were just too small, but never the less what pretty girls they are, and these ones both smell great, I had to purchase a magnytorch t'other day as i just wasn't sure when they were ready and guess work just isn't precise enough, and so I'm just awaiting the perfect time for them to come down, and so will begin to flush them with distilled water tonight as the trichomes are just starting to become amber. So maybe next week they'll get the chop.



I have also purchased some 'Nirvana' ''White Widow'', and was wondering whether All Mix and Bio products will be over nuted for them ? Or will this combo be okay for these fine bitches ?
