ok, im sorta a newb at growing and i have a question on how to keep from the plant pollenating its self so i can get more seeds. Ive heard some techniques like put a fan near your plant and stuff, but i was just wondering if there were any other ways to keep this from happening.

wait... weed won't pollenate itself. it's unlike most other plants in that it can't pollenate itself, because an individual plant won't sport both sex organs. you can have a female plant, which produces thc rich buds, or a male plant, which is only useful if you want it to pollenate your female so you can get seeds. males are useless if you want bud.

you can't tell which sex your plant is until you initiate flowering by starting a 12/12 lighting schedule. if you have more than one plant, and they are all getting the same amount of light, you should be able to recognize the male plants before the females. males have little grape-like sacs at the nodes, and females start producing bud at the nodes which have all sorts of little white hairs on them.

a female plant will stop producing thc and start making seeds when she is pollenated by a male plant. unless this is what you're aiming for, i suggest that you get rid of your males.

Dude, you pose a confusing qustion, or you give such little info.
If you are growing several plants, and dont care about your buds, you can just allow the male and female plants to grow together naturally. They will do there thing, and you'll have a lifetime supply of seeds.

However, most of us, do not want to put the effort into a grow, to have it ruined by seeds. Once seeds are started, a female plant stops putting it's energy into the buds, and focus's on the seeds instead.

Alot of growers who want seeds, do want is called selective pollenation.
Look at my signature, you'll find an indepth thread on how to perform that.

After you've collected your pollen, you can use a q-tip or a model paintbrush to literally paint the lower buds with pollen.

This way, you'll still have some nice ass buds to smoke and plenty of seeds too.
Peace.
